Stiles didn't know if it was sad or impressive that he managed a whole month at his FBI internship before getting shot. Some might have said that with his luck he might've been shot on the first day.

It hadn't been his finest moment, seeing as it was just a small graze on his foot from a ricochet and he had screamed like he had a whole arm taken off. Oh and he passed out when he saw the blood. That was pretty embarrassing too. Whole thing warranted two stitches and a pass to take the rest of the day off (but was expected back bright and early tomorrow).

He was fine to drive home but of course that whole idea went out the window when he told Derek about the ordeal. Now he was waiting to be picked up, occasionally looking at the windows of the facility to see if his classmates were pointing and laughing at him.

So. Embarrassing.

It was part of their charm, really.

"I'm engaged to you. Of course I do," Derek replied, looking at the door and then back at Stiles. Then lifted his eyebrows because his hands were full here.

Stiles sighed and freed one of his arms from Derek to get his keys out of his pocket.

"You could've just liked me for my personality," he joked, unlocking the door and opening it.

"Nope," Derek replied, taking them on in and kicking the door shut behind them. "It's all for your body."

That was a lie. A damn lie even.

"Well I'm flattered." He looked over his shoulder into the apartment. "...I forgot to clean up."

Why was Derek completely unsurprised by this? "Is the couch at least fit for sitting on?"

[robinonadderall]

"Hey, it's not dirty!" It's just not neat. "I'm not gross."

[justlurkinghere]

Derek just hummed, taking him to the bedroom instead. "I think you'll want to change out of your professional clothes."

Because Derek couldn't do dirty things to you now. He was resisting his love of you in suits, Stiles.

"I believe I can manage that," Stiles said, already undoing his tie. "Just don't frown when you see my foot."

"I won't frown." He would frown so hard.

He very carefully set Stiles down on the bed to assist in the undressing. Because he was a good fiance like that.

And so he could frown at Stiles' foot.

Yeah Stiles knew that frowning would commence. Which is why he put off taking off that particular shoe for as long as possible. Unfortunately they needed to come off if his pants were ever going to. Damn it.

"It's only two stitches."

[justlurkinghere]

"I didn't say anything," Derek replied, helping him with his belt.

He had been thinking it, though.

"Uh huh," he said. "I know you though."

[justlurkinghere]

"Tomorrow I'll make fun of you for getting shot in the toe," he promised, pulling Stles' belt free before going to help him with the shoes. "Just not today."

And he'd text periodically asking about the status of various body parts.

"Okay," he said with an understanding nod. He shrugged his shirt off and started undoing his pants. "I get that."

"How did you handle it with your dad?" he asked, being as careful as he could while getting Stiles' shoes off.

[robinonadderall]

"He's been a cop my whole life," Stiles said, shrugging. "I don't know anything else. I just trust him to do his best to come home."

Well, right about now Derek would have loved to be able to talk to his mom about this. Because that was probably just the beginning of close calls, knowing Stiles.

Instead he just curled his hand around Stiles' ankle to pull any lingering pain. "Maybe we should get you some kevlar shoes."

Stiles huffed. "Might be a little heavy."

[justlurkinghere]

"Pants?" Those actually existed! You know. For people in danger of assassination.

[robinonadderall]

"Heavier," he said. "Let's just be happy that I'll get a vest if the situation warrants it."

[justlurkinghere]

Derek looked at him for a moment before leaning in for a soft kiss. "I'm going to hope you don't need it very much, you know."

[robinonadderall]

"I know," he said. "You sure you're ready to be a law enforcement husband?"

[justlurkinghere]

"No," he answered honestly. "But I'll get there."

Probably with some life affirming sexing.

[robinonadderall]

"You've got some time," he said. "Lemme tell you I did not make a great impression today."

[justlurkinghere]

"You'll win them over," Derek replied. "You're persistent."

He knew from experience.

"Maybe bring in donuts tomorrow."

Which would make up for the panic.
