There Might Be Some Kids Coming Mansion | Saturday Morning

Stiles had a very good Valentine's Day filled with brownies and only slight awkwardness. It had ended with him on the couch alone but, hey, that was the life one lived when they had a boyfriend who wouldn't do anything dirty with them until it was legal in all 50 states. So.

He was still asleep, for once having a nightmare-free evening, and completely unaware that terrible things were about to happen.

"Because it's one of those days," Derek countered, carefully disengaging her brownie covered hand from his jeans to dig out breakfast making materials.

"Why's Dad asleep on the couch?" she asked. "And why were you in the basement?"

No, the questions never stopped. Never.

"Hey, a dog!"

Werewolves could also have ADHD, who knew?

Derek didn't know! Well, now he did.

His eyebrows went up and all that annoyance and suspicion disappeared as if like magic. Because he had a kid with Stiles this time around.

"Full moon," Derek replied after a moment of staring. "Go wake your---dad."

Claudia had been burying her face into Puppy Joe's fur in what would be a familiar way before getting a little overly excited at the prospect of waking up her dad. "Okay!"

She gently placed Puppy Joe on the floor and ran into the living room to do a running jump right on Stiles.

"What?!" There wasn't any damage done but it was still kind of a rude awakening. Stiles flailed, luckily not throwing off Claudia in the process before looking blearily up at the kid that tackled him. "What?"

"Daddy told me to do it!" He did not.

"One of those weekends again," Derek called from the kitchen. He felt it deserved bacon and possibly gravy. GOODBYE, ARTERIES.

"This is..." he started, leaning in the doorway to look at the two of them. "What's your name?"

"Claudia," she replied. And, just in case they were really out of it and forgot their own last names, "Stilinski-Hale."

Stiles froze and not in a good "ha ha what a fun and goofy weekend" type of way. If there was a type of way like that. "Claudia was my mom's name."

Oh. Well then. This was an awkward situation to be in.

Which somehow translated to Derek picking Claudia up and off of Stiles. "Kitchen. Don't touch anything."

Because Stiles' kid and cooking...

Stiles waited until Claudia was out of the room before saying anything but he was aware she was probably listening in. "I, um...a kid."

See, last year had been easy to deal with. Haley had been a teenager like him and a complete impossibility because, ew, Peter. This, on the other hand, was within the realm of possibility to him. And it was terrifying.

"She's a werewolf." Derek, you're not helping anything. At all. Stop it.

Yeah, Derek, really not helping. "Oh, well, that's...that's...something."

He was trying not to freak out about this because this house was filled with people who could tell when he was freaking out but...he was freaking out.

Which was why he was grabbing his shoes and putting them on. "I'm gonna, um, go get donuts."

You knew he was out of it when he was going to get terrible food for Derek and his kid. "I'll just be, uh, back. Later. With donuts."

He needed to call Scott. That was a thing he needed to do. Without werewolves listening in.

"With donuts," Derek repeated, trying and failing to not feel disappointed at the situation. Because he was a strange person who yearned for family.

"Is he gonna have a heart attack?" Claudia called from the kitchen. It sounded like it to her.

"No." Well. "Probably not," Derek corrected. Because you could never be certain with this island.

He huffed like the drama queen he was. "Stop eating cookies."

"Did I do something wrong?" she asked. While still eating cookies.

That got a less 'I'm a giant drama queen' sigh to it as Derek made his way back into the kitchen.

"You're eating cookies for breakfast," Derek pointed out. "But I think Stiles--" Oh god. "--your dad needed to get some air."

She put the cookie down. See, she could listen sometimes. "Can I sit on the counter while you cook?"

"Yeah." Derek, stop looking soft and happy at that. It was disturbing. "Don't tell him about the bacon."

"I never do," she said, climbing up on the counter. Didn't even need a stool or anything. Thanks, werewolf skills. "And neither does Grandpa when he visits us."

Oh god, all the heartburn he was getting!

Derek shot her a quick smile as he put the whole pound of bacon out in a neat layer on a baking sheet to get cooked all at once. "How did--"

How did you happen wasn't at all an awkward question to ask your maybe future daughter.

"How'd you get here?"

There. Much better.

Claudia was a smart one and guessed that her dad meant in general, not here to the island specifically. Luckily being a werewolf meant everybody had to be honest with where she came from otherwise she'd hear the lie.

"I'm adopted," she answered. "Dad said it took a long time of Grandpa leaving adoption pamphlets on the table and you making puppy eyes around Uncle Scott's kids before it happened though."

"But he also says he's glad everybody steamrolled him into it 'cause I'm awesome."

Derek would have objected to the puppy eyes things, but that was pretty much what he was doing right now. So.

Pot. Kettle.

"You are," Derek granted her with a nod. "All Hales are awesome."

Except Peter. But he didn't know that yet.

Claudia nodded in agreement with that, because Aunt Cora seemed pretty awesome too. "And I'm a Stilinski-Hale so I've got double the awesome. And then Uncle Scott's my godfather so I've got McCall awesome too."
