There Might Be Some Kids Coming Mansion | Saturday Morning

Stiles had a very good Valentine's Day filled with brownies and only slight awkwardness. It had ended with him on the couch alone but, hey, that was the life one lived when they had a boyfriend who wouldn't do anything dirty with them until it was legal in all 50 states. So.

He was still asleep, for once having a nightmare-free evening, and completely unaware that terrible things were about to happen.

Oh god, all the heartburn he was getting!

Derek shot her a quick smile as he put the whole pound of bacon out in a neat layer on a baking sheet to get cooked all at once. "How did--"

How did you happen wasn't at all an awkward question to ask your maybe future daughter.

"How'd you get here?"

There. Much better.

Claudia was a smart one and guessed that her dad meant in general, not here to the island specifically. Luckily being a werewolf meant everybody had to be honest with where she came from otherwise she'd hear the lie.

"I'm adopted," she answered. "Dad said it took a long time of Grandpa leaving adoption pamphlets on the table and you making puppy eyes around Uncle Scott's kids before it happened though."

"But he also says he's glad everybody steamrolled him into it 'cause I'm awesome."

Derek would have objected to the puppy eyes things, but that was pretty much what he was doing right now. So.

Pot. Kettle.

"You are," Derek granted her with a nod. "All Hales are awesome."

Except Peter. But he didn't know that yet.

Claudia nodded in agreement with that, because Aunt Cora seemed pretty awesome too. "And I'm a Stilinski-Hale so I've got double the awesome. And then Uncle Scott's my godfather so I've got McCall awesome too."

Aunt Cora probably taught her how to sucker punch people when threatened. So.

Derek smiled and held up a hand for a high-five. As one does.

Claudia beamed at him and returned the high five. And she didn't even have to hold back on her strength like she had to do with Stiles. "You gonna make pancakes?"

Yes. Pancakes and donuts if Stiles ever came back with them.

"Can I trust you to grab ingredients?" Oh god, it was like having a real pack again and everything was happy.

Well, of course she could if it meant she was getting pancakes out of it!

Which is what Stiles walked into a few minutes later. He had taken longer than he thought he would because after Scott talked him through his freak out he was almost back home before realizing he hadn't actually gotten donuts. So he had to walk all the way back to J,GOB.

When he came into the kitchen he tossed the box of donuts on the counter and narrowly dodged Claudia running by with a bag of flour in her hands. Then he shuffled over behind Derek, bringing his arms up to wrap around him for a hug. Because he had been a jerk.

Derek tensed for a moment because they were doing an awful lot of PDAs lately. But it was a weird weekend, so he felt it was allowed to reach back for an awkward, backwards hug.

"She's adopted. So I'm pretty sure you're safe from werewolf pregnancy."

Now he was just being a jerk.

Stiles laughed quietly, pulling away after a couple moments. They had been PDA'ing up lately. It had been a miracle nobody else had noticed.

"I figured." Between realizing that and Scott pointing out that if Claudia was a werewolf she couldn't get diseases, Stiles' freak out had subsided some. Because, no, there was no way she could inherit the same disease his mother had.

Though there was still the worry that he'd get it and leave a kid behind and he...well, he just never wanted to risk that after going through it himself.

"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have left."

"Can't say I wouldn't have acted the same if her name had been Talia," Derek muttered, grabbing Stiles' hand for one quick squeeze before grabbing the eggs out of Claudia's hands. God help them with an over eager werewolf kid in the house.

"That's my middle name." She clearly got her totally helpful genes from you, Derek.

DAMN HIS HELPFUL GENES.

Derek froze up, staring at her with that sad, kicked puppy expression. Because look at all those mommy issues in one form.

You put that expression away, Derek. That's how you got this child in the first place.

"This was so much easier last year," Stiles muttered. He bent down to scoop Claudia up in his arms because he figured he should show some affection after running out on her like that. That was such a dick move.

Hey! The sheriff had a role in it too.

"At least it's not triplets?"

"True," Stiles said, placing Claudia on the counter and going for the donuts. She was getting a donut because he had been a terrible father, yes. "Still, this has a shot of happening so that's a whole...other thing."

A whole other terrifying thing. And, yes, Stiles was just going to admit out loud that he thought they had a chance of having kids together one day. Look, he had no doubts that he was in this for the long haul.

"Are you making bacon?" You can be in it for the long haul if you die of a heart attack, Derek!

"I told him to," Claudia said around a mouthful of donut. That was a lie, but she had your back, Derek.

Derek gave her an approving nod. Because this kid was okay. They could totally keep her.

"It's a lot of people to feed," he agreed. "You know how much kids eat."

Remember Derek eating an entire pizza in ten minutes at that age?

"Uh huh," Stiles said, looking between the two of them. Since Claudia was just a kid it was Derek that got the sharp finger poke in the ribs. "I may not be a werewolf but I know when you're lying to me."

It still made Derek grin even with the rib poking. "Can't prove it."

Yeah, way to flirt in front of the kid, guys.

Please, this kid was probably used to it by now.

"I could," he said, nodding over at Claudia. "I could make her tell me."

"You could not!" Claudia argued, but she looked a little unsure. But still, she would remain strong. Because bacon.

"Oh yes I could," Stiles said, placing his hands on either side of her. "I was a little liar like you growing up and your grandmother knew how to make me talk."

He looked over at Derek. "Werewolves are ticklish, right?"

"Are not." Run, Claudia. Run. "Little known fact. Lycanthropy cures it."

"What's that? Another lie?" Totally another lie since when he tested out his theory Claudia let out a startled high pitched laugh and tried to scramble away from his hands.

And yet if you asked him he'd say he was terrible with kids.
