So work had been a distraction, but sadly he couldn't stay there all evening. Even with the dog and other people in the house it was kind of depressing to show up and not have Derek there. Even if he was still kind of annoyed with him.

After feeding Puppy Joe he shuffled upstairs for a change a clothes 'cause if he was going to mope around he was going to do it comfortably.

Guys, the house didn't belong to either of you. It was Mike's house.

"I can go back to my room." And they could start this whole awkward not talking thing all over again just when it started to get a little better.

Derek went all tense at that. If he'd been a wolf, his fur would have been all puffed up. "No. We're talking."

Wow, those were word he thought Derek would never say. It was hard to say no to that since it happened so rarely.

"Okay, talk." You brought it up so you had to go first, Derek.

Derek sighed like a drama queen, stalking over to the bed to sit down. "Do you want me to lie to you about this?"

"No," he replied. "I want you to stop being afraid of what you think I might do. I've had enough of that lately."

He was not going to forget Melissa being afraid to even touch his wrist any time soon, or his father having to look at other people for assurance before believing it was safe to touch him.

"I can't just--just shut it off," Derek snapped.

"So what am I supposed to do?" he asked. "You don't trust me enough to believe anything I say!"

"Not right now, no!" This was going swimmingly. Derek huffed, forcing himself to turn the volume down. "I need time. You're not getting over things in a hurry either. Are you?"

"You know that I'm not," Stiles said irritably. "But this is different. How is time going to help this? Like if I go one month without trying to disembowel myself you'll finally believe me?"

"I don't know," Derek said, shoulders hunched defensively.

"Why do you even want me here?" he asked. "If I'm just going to worry you all the time, then why haven't you told me to go?"

"Do you want to go?" Derek asked with his poor eyes on full blast.

"I want to stop hurting you."

[justlurkinghere]

"It's not--you're not--" he made a frustrated noise. "I think you're worth it."

Stiles huffed, turning away to get the rest of the clothes he wanted out of the drawers. He didn't really think he was worth it lately, not to Derek or Scott or anybody else.

"Stiles. I mean it."

[robinonadderall]

"I know you do." Stiles was just worried about what it would take to make Derek feel like it wasn't worth it. He took on a lot of pain and grief that he shouldn't have to.

Derek gave into those Nicholas Sparks urges, pushing up from the bed to come up behind Stiles and hug him. "You didn't give up on me when I was an asshole to you."

"There's a pretty big difference between that and this," he said even as he was leaning back against Derek. "Besides, I was an asshole to you too."

[justlurkinghere]

"Not that different," Derek muttered, turning his head to sniff at Stiles' neck. "Other than I was in control of myself when I hurt you."

"I was in control of myself." At least through the last bit of it when he felt like he did the most damage.

He put his hands over Derek and didn't bring up the sniffing thing. It was kind of nice and normal. You know. For them.

Deal with his sniffing. Deal with it.

"We'll take things slow again," he suggested, relaxing against Stiles. "Deal with what's happening."

Stiles huffed again. "'Cause we did so well with slow the first time."

[justlurkinghere]

"Slow with the relationship," Derek huffed, though there was amusement in there. "Sex isn't a relationship."

He totally read that in a self help book.

"Right. Of course it's not," he said, craning his neck to look back at Derek. "We can take that slow too if you want. We haven't had sex in like a month anyway."

He was starting to think maybe the sex had been a figment of his imagination.
