A Car Somewhere In The South | Friday Evening

Visiting college campuses had seemed like a good idea at first. Bringing Derek along for the ride seemed like an even better one. However Stiles was greatly beginning to regret both decisions after a few hours in a car that was not his beloved jeep and after realizing that the South was really boring. Really, really boring.

"We should have just taken a portal."

"We could," he said, browsing a menu that felt like there had been a whole can of soda spilled on it. "But it'd probably take some effort."

Derek wasn't smirking at him. At all. Really.

"Enjoying your restaurant choice?"

"Bite me," Stiles said from behind the menu before flipping Derek the bird.

Such class.

"Don't offer that to a werewolf," Derek shot back before realizing how that might have seemed weird.

So, he picked up his own menu to hide his face.

"You're not an alpha," Stiles pointed out. "And most alphas I've known have understood sarcasm and insults."

"Still have fangs." WHY WAS HE CONTINUING THIS?

"Trust me, when it's an invitation, you'll know it." Oh god, he did not meant it like that. Okay, he kind of did but he didn't mean for it to come out. "That goes for all werewolves."

There. All better.

Which got him awkward staring. So much awkward staring.

"Good." Stiles went on reading the menu before stilling when he realized he had said 'when' instead of 'if' when it came to the biting invitation. God, he was an awkward mess. No wonder Lydia ignored him for ten years.

Just ignore how red his face was. Ignore it.

YOU MEAN HOW DEREK HAD GOTTEN HIS BITE COMMENTS ALL OVER STILES AND MADE THIS ENTIRE TRIP AWKWARD, RIGHT?

Derek stared at his menu like it could fix this horrible day. "I think someone has thrown up on this."

BOOM. SUBJECT CHANGED.

"I would not be surprised," he said. "Drunk people love these kinds of places."

"And this is what you pick."

"I wanted breakfast!" Sheesh, Derek. Stop judging him.

HE WOULD NEVER STOP.

"Are you going home next week?" Just stare at the insanely simple menu like it needed that kind of attention, Derek.

[robinonadderall]

"It's like September there so no," he said. "Besides, I just went home last month."

And came back with his horrific nightmares kicked into overdrive, remember?

DEREK WASN'T PAYING ATTENTION TO THAT. LA LA LA LA LA. HE CAN'T HEAR YOU.

"Weird."

Such description. So smart.

"Me not going home is weird to you?" he asked.

[justlurkinghere]

"The time difference. You're going to be starting college before anyone."

[robinonadderall]

"Oh. That. Yeah, I know," he said. "They're all juniors like Isaac. I tested up a grade when I got to Fandom and then things got weird so now I'm turning eighteen when Scott's not even seventeen yet."

Sigh. Things were so weird.

"I'm not alone there though, at least. Allison's turning eighteen too. And I guess so is the Fandom version of Jackson."

"...what?"

"What?" How could you not understand that completely simple version of his fucked up timeline, Derek?

[justlurkinghere]

"Never mind," Derek muttered because his brain hurt trying to think about. "I'm getting the steak and waffle."

With extra steak. Like, five of them.

"No steak," Stiles said. "Get chicken, it's better for you."

"...chicken fingers are worse than steak." HE WAS JUST SAYING.
