A Car Somewhere In The South | Friday Evening

Visiting college campuses had seemed like a good idea at first. Bringing Derek along for the ride seemed like an even better one. However Stiles was greatly beginning to regret both decisions after a few hours in a car that was not his beloved jeep and after realizing that the South was really boring. Really, really boring.

"We should have just taken a portal."

Damn it! His clever ruse failed!

"You should spend more time with him."

"I'd like to, but I'm three thousand miles away and he's the sheriff of crazy town," Stiles said. "Not a lot of free time there."

Which was something Stiles had been used to from a young age.

"Besides, I don't want him seeing me like this."

"He's your dad," Derek sad, glancing up form the menu just once before looking at the pretty pictures again.

"And, again, he's the sheriff of Beacon Hills," he said. "He's got enough problems."

Derek just exhaled through his nose, lips going tight as he looked over in the waitress' direction so they could get food and he wouldn't need to think about anything.

They still had a long trip to go and a night or two in a hotel room, thinking was bound to happen. "What's it matter if I spend time with my dad or not?"

HE WOULD IGNORE IT ALL.

"Because he's your dad," Derek ground out as the waitress continued to just ignore them for their romantic couple conversations. "And if you're worried about his health, you should spend time with him."

Stiles sighed. Fine, he didn't want to do this, but he would if he had to. "Derek, I've been after my dad about his health since I was eight years old."

Come on, Derek. You could work it out.

Derek looked over at him for that. Because, yes. Yes, he could work it out. For once.

"More reason to make time for him."

[robinonadderall]

You were exhausting sometimes, Derek, you really were. "We're fine. If the time comes that I need to bother him about this whole thing going on with me, I will. Until then we text and Skype a lot. It works for us."

His issues were charming. Weren't you just so glad you stuck around to have a crush on him?

"Good."

[robinonadderall]

"Are you okay?" If you were feeling bad Stiles might let you get a steak, Derek.

[justlurkinghere]

"Why isn't the waitress coming over?" Derek asked, avoiding the question like it was made of wolfsbane. The kind we've already seen and not the kind that will work like random bullshit kryptonite when needed.

"I don't know, Derek, maybe because you're giving serial killer eyes to everybody." Stiles decided to take pity on him though and catch eyes with the waitress to wave her over. 'Cause Stiles looked like one of those doofy kids that couldn't hurt anybody.

"I don't have serial killer eyes." He totally did.

[robinonadderall]

"Just order before she gets scared and runs off," Stiles murmured before straightening up a little and trying to act normal for the waitress. Yep, getting a huge stack of waffles. And a Coke.

For that, Derek was getting sausage with his ham. And waffles. An ungodly amount of waffles for someone his size.

Once she was gone, he had to ask: "Is it the stubble?" THAT WAS ARTFUL, STILES. HE CULTIVATED IT.

"Why would it be the stubble? Plenty of guys have stubble," he said. "You just look like something's bothering you and it's giving you serial killer eyes."

"...that's just how I look." It was what happens when you have man pain.

[robinonadderall]

"I'm aware, but other people aren't aware," Stiles said. "It doesn't help we've been fighting since we walked in here."

[justlurkinghere]

Oh, sure. Point it out to him!

Derek's mouth pulled into a thin line as Stiles Coke and his coffee were set down on the table for them. And he promptly went for a nice ol' mouth burning sip.

"See that look is gonna keep us from getting refills." Just for the record.

[justlurkinghere]

No, this was good. Let Stiles see just what will happen sticking around him! Yeah, no more refills for you.

Also, serial killer face.

Derek hunched his shoulders slightly, forearms on the table. "Next time just bring Kitty with you or something."

[robinonadderall]

"But I want you with me." To visit colleges. Not for some other reason. That'd be crazy.

[justlurkinghere]

And he really wanted to asked the incredibly needy and awkward question of 'why?' but that would be pushing it.

"How far off are why?" he asked instead, looking down into his coffee cup.
