A Car Somewhere In The South | Friday Evening

Visiting college campuses had seemed like a good idea at first. Bringing Derek along for the ride seemed like an even better one. However Stiles was greatly beginning to regret both decisions after a few hours in a car that was not his beloved jeep and after realizing that the South was really boring. Really, really boring.

"We should have just taken a portal."

"I wanted breakfast!" Sheesh, Derek. Stop judging him.

"Are you going home next week?" Just stare at the insanely simple menu like it needed that kind of attention, Derek.

"It's like September there so no," he said. "Besides, I just went home last month."

And came back with his horrific nightmares kicked into overdrive, remember?

DEREK WASN'T PAYING ATTENTION TO THAT. LA LA LA LA LA. HE CAN'T HEAR YOU.

"Weird."

"Me not going home is weird to you?" he asked.

"The time difference. You're going to be starting college before anyone."

[robinonadderall]

"Oh. That. Yeah, I know," he said. "They're all juniors like Isaac. I tested up a grade when I got to Fandom and then things got weird so now I'm turning eighteen when Scott's not even seventeen yet."

Sigh. Things were so weird.

"I'm not alone there though, at least. Allison's turning eighteen too. And I guess so is the Fandom version of Jackson."

"What?" How could you not understand that completely simple version of his fucked up timeline, Derek?

"Never mind," Derek muttered because his brain hurt trying to think about. "I'm getting the steak and waffle."

With extra steak. Like, five of them.

"No steak," Stiles said. "Get chicken, it's better for you."

"...chicken fingers are worse than steak." HE WAS JUST SAYING.

"It's white meat instead of red though." That made a difference in his mind!

"They're fried." They couldn't go five minutes without bickering.

Stiles groaned. "For fuck's sake, fine, whatever. Get what you want."

Excuse him for caring in the craziest, most unnecessary way ever!

Derek sighed again. "I'll get the ham. It's lean."

Ugh, the sacrifices he made for his platonic friendships.

"Like I said, do what you want." But his shoulders relaxed some, like he was pleased with that answer.

They had all the problems of two people in a relationship but none of the sex. It was sad.

Which was probably by the waitress wasn't going to hit on Derek. Congratulations on that, Stiles. Congrats.

"You better take a nutrition class at college or something," he muttered.

Probably for the best. Nobody needed Stiles getting bitchy at a lady who made below minimum wage.

"Don't think that's a pre-req for my degree," he said before finally deciding what to order. Which would be a stack of chocolate chip waffles. So healthy.

UGH. DEREK WAS STEALING BITES.

"Might be good for your dad." And get you to stop trying to make him eat 'healthy'.

"My dad has the entirety of Beacon Hills aiding and abetting his poor diet choices when I'm not around," Stiles said. "I doubt having a college nutrition course under my belt is going to change anything."

It was possible that it wasn't aiding and abetting so much as they realized that Sheriff Stilinski was perfectly healthy and Stiles was insane.

Damn it! His clever ruse failed!

"You should spend more time with him."

[robinonadderall]

"I'd like to, but I'm three thousand miles away and he's the sheriff of crazy town," Stiles said. "Not a lot of free time there."

Which was something Stiles had been used to from a young age.

"Besides, I don't want him seeing me like this."
