Stiles shouldn't be surprised that Derek actually bought a place near his school but...he was surprised Derek actually bought a place near his school. Sure, eventually it'd be a good investment since Derek seemed to be taking the whole landlord thing seriously but this was still ridiculous.

Even more ridiculous was the fact that it had already been furnished in Derek's typical minimalist style. Seriously, he could afford to buy a house but furniture was out of the question?

"This is crazy."

"I'm not spending money on furniture for tenants to wreck later on." Clearly that was the reason. Or just the only plausible explanation he could come up with for his taste level.

"Uh huh." Yeah that was believable. "You know most tenants bring in their own furniture."

"...it'll be a perk in the listing."

Stiles huffed and shook his head. "You're insane."

Derek rolled his eyes, wrapping his arms around Stiles' waist. "When it's a real house for us, you can pick most of the furniture."

Not all. Just most.

"Hey, I don't care what kind of furniture is there so long as there is furniture," he said. "We've got one couch in here. What if we have people over? You want them to sit in my lap?"

"...no. You'll sit on my lap." Duh. It was his fiendish plan.

"What if the person visiting is my dad?" he asked.

And that killed Derek's fiendish plan. Killed it for good. "We're buying another couch."

"That's what I thought," he said, smiling. "Didn't think that through, did you?"

"That's why I have you around." Oh, smooth one.

[robinonadderall]

"That's so sweet," he joked, leaning against Derek. "I can't believe you did all this."

Derek hummed, resting his chin on Stiles' shoulder. He only had to stretch a little for that.

Damn ever so slightly taller people.

"You like it?"

Little late now, Derek

"I think you're nuts," he said with a slight smile. "But, yes, I like it."

"Next year you can room here instead of a dorm if you want," Derek offered. Because they were terrible at not being codependent.

[robinonadderall]

"That'd be nice," he admitted. "But you wouldn't be able to resist staying here every night if I did."

[justlurkinghere]

"You can kick me out when you need to study," Derek promised.

[robinonadderall]

"And what about your jobs on the island?" Stiles asked.

[justlurkinghere]

Why must you continue to bring logic into this?

Derek sighed maturely. "Fine, I can't be here all the time."

Just most of the time.

[robinonadderall]

"That would be the logical answer," he said. "I could move in here this winter, actually. Save my dad for paying for dorms another semester."

[justlurkinghere]

"You can," Derek agreed far too quickly. "Just try not to throw too many parties here when I'm not around."

[robinonadderall]

"Oh yeah that'll happen," he said, rolling his eyes. "Try not peeping on me on nights where I'm by myself."

Let's be real, Derek would either stalk or install a security system in the house.

"You think I'd watch you while you're alone?" Yes. Yes, he would.

[robinonadderall]

Stiles gave Derek a look. "Are you trying to say you wouldn't?"

"Well. Not without permission."

Which made it okay.
