Stiles had arrived home on the 4th and was immediately tackled into a hug by Scott who refused to let go until Stiles promised that he would get to be best man/werewolf of honor/whatever at his wedding. The one that wasn't happening for three years. Stiles was surprised Scott hadn't made him get it down in writing with a notary involved.
While it was perfectly fine to tell Scott via text that he was engaged, his father was a whole different matter. Sheriff Stilinski had to have known something was up when Stiles had a glass of whisky and a cheeseburger ready for him when he got home from a shift. Still, he didn't ask any questions, instead choosing to enjoy the burger before Stiles inevitably said something that would ruin his appetite.
Stiles, meanwhile, sat across from him at the table, drumming his fingers against it nervously. "So, Dad, you know how I'm, like, totally into Derek and we're two responsible adults--"
Sheriff Stilinski made a grunting noise of acknowledgement through bites of his burger.
"And, like, when two adults love each other they do...like, things to ensure they get tax breaks from the government..." Stiles tilted his head and looked at his father. There was something different about him. Something was off. He stopped babbling while he worked those Stilinski detective skills to figure it out.
The sheriff sighed. "Son, I know you're getting married, I saw your ring as soon as I walked in the door."
"What--how?"
"I solve crimes for a living," Sheriff Stilinski said with a 'duh' tone. "It was just fun watching you squirm."
"Do you know how much I was freaking out? You are such a jerk," Stiles said with a relieved laugh. It was cut off when he realized what was different about his dad. "You're not wearing your wedding ring."
Well this suddenly got awkward. More awkward.
