Right, so, Stiles' Thanksgiving had sucked what with getting his dad fired and Scott almost dying and them not being any closer to solving the whole kanima thing. He needed to relieve some stress and doing it the usual way wasn't cutting it. Which would be why he was at Derek's with a small jar filled with mountain ash. Deaton had been proud to hear of what Stiles accomplished and gave some more of it just in case. He was dying to see if the other night was just a fluke or if he really did gain a new skill.

Unlike the last time he did this, Stiles wasn't all that nervous about the small amount of mountain ash he had. In fact he purposely took less than was needed. He sprinkled some of it for a couple feet before closing his eyes and picturing a completed ring of ash around the mansion. Sure enough when he opened his eyes back up again the circle was complete. Oh yeah, he was totally magic.

He was in no rush to see if it worked, so he let himself in the house and wandered into the kitchen because he hadn't had anything to eat yet today. He ended up finding the motherload of Thanksgiving leftovers and quickly took to making himself a turkey sandwich and...finishing off the pie.

Whoops.

Stiles had no false hope, none. He was just praying he didn't trip and fall because that would be embarrassing and sad.

"Derek, I'm sorry!" he shouted as he kept on running. "I'm really, really sorry!"

His heart was already beating fast from the running but you didn't have to be a werewolf to know he was lying.

"Lie," Derek hissed, grabbing Stiles' top most shirt layer to bring him up short. Yeah, this was perfectly normal.

Stiles made a little choked noise as he was yanked back. He stumbled and probably would have landed on his ass if Derek hadn't been behind him. "Okay, okay! You're not a teddy bear!"

Yep. Totally normal.

Somewhere... Someone was comparing this to Twilight. Healthy.

It probably helped that Derek was right behind him, doing his best impression of a brick wall. "Really? I'm hurt. Here I thought we were making progress."

"Did you want me to call you a teddy bear?" Stiles asked, craning his neck back to look at Derek. "'Cause I can."

Derek just rolled his eyes, dropping his hold with a shove. Yeah, not helping reestablish is terrifying street cred. "Where did you get it?"

"So not telling you that," Stiles said, taking a few steps away from Derek. He wasn't very fond of being loomed at. "I had to learn to use it to trap someone--not you--in a warehouse. I just wanted to see if it would work in a non-distressing situation."

You weren't very distressing, Derek, sorry.

Derek was just going to sigh at you some more. Because he was hella mature. "Very reassuring, Stiles."

"Oh come on, I wouldn't actually use it on you in a serious situation." Not unless Derek really deserved it. "Look I had a really bad weekend and it's March back home so I didn't get good food so you should totally let this slide."

UGH, STOP BEING WHINY.

"And if I ask what happened...?"

SHUT UP, DEREK, YOU WERE WHINY.

Stiles sighed. "Scott almost died and I got my dad fired. Happy?"

DON'T GIVE HIM FAMILY FEELS THEN. GOD.

"The restraining order thing?"

"Let's just say I've been causing the Beacon Hills law enforcement a lot of trouble ever since I got involved with this whole werewolf thing," Stiles said. "But the restraining order thing was the final straw, yeah."

"My dad's not mad at me, if that's what you were thinking," he said. "He's not mad at all, which weirdly makes it worse."

Well. This got awkward and heavy fast.

Derek stared at him awkwardly for a moment. Because he was made of issues. And guilt. "Keep the ash on you. It's good for protection."

WOW. WAY TO HELP, DEREK.

Oddly enough Stiles would have been more weirded out if Derek had made himself useful.

"You want me to keep mountain ash on me?" he asked. "Oh yeah, that'll be a hit with girls. The jar of black dust that I keep in my pants."

"You prefer I suggest a rape whistle?"

"How about a dog whistle?" Stiles suggested. "Do those work on you guys?"

That earned him a glare. And thus, status quo was restored.

"Stick to the ash, idiot."

That was totally a yes on the dog whistle.

"I do so love your pet names," Stiles said, rolling his eyes. "By the way, thanks for the adorable text you sent."

Yeah, Stiles knew there was no way Derek had sent that.

"Text?" DAMN IT, LAURA.

Stiles fished out his phone, found the text in question and held it up towards Derek.

And, yes, Derek was listed as "Miguel" in Stiles' phone.

"...I didn't send that text." Really, they should be lucky Laura didn't include a '<3' at the end.

"Oh really, Derek? I had no clue because, you know, the text sounded so much like something you'd write," Stiles said. "Now I'm heartbroken."

Which earned Stiles a flick to the ear. "Sorry dear."

"Hey, ow!" Ear flicking stung, dammit! "You need to work on your gestures of affection, muffin, I'm fairly sure they're not supposed to hurt."
