Midterms were horrifyingly close and it turned out that you had tests and essays to write before midterms which was extremely unfair. There should be rules against that sort of stuff. It was child abuse!

Oh right, he wasn't a child anymore.

His roommate was wherever he went to in the evenings (Stiles had the feeling he creeped out the guy) which Stiles was thankful for because he needed all the space for studying. His papers were everywhere. The beds, the desks, the floor, the dressers. It was part of a highly scientific system. Even when he shoved the papers off his bed so he could attempt to take a frustrated angry nap it was all part of the system.

"A studying machine."

"That's me," he said. "Need to maintain my 4.0."

"You're smart," Derek assured him. "You'll get this all worked out."

"I hope so," Stiles said. "I still miss you."

Derek took a seat on his--their--bed. "When are midterms over?"

"Second week of October," he said, rubbing his face. "Might keel over and die before then."

"You'll have to take a day off and come back here." And not just because they would end up going crazy apart so long.

[robinonadderall]

"Will I?" he asked, smiling. "What are you gonna do for me if I come there?"

[justlurkinghere]

"Whatever you want," Derek replied easily. "I still have to find you a surprise."

[robinonadderall]

"What did I do to earn a surprise?" he asked.

[justlurkinghere]

"You got through your midterms." Hopefully. It was a preemptive gift.

[robinonadderall]

"So what kind of a surprise does that earn?" he asked. "A sexy one?"

[justlurkinghere]

"Well, that or I'll make you those peanut butter brownies again."

[robinonadderall]

"Both?"

[justlurkinghere]

"Greedy."

[robinonadderall]

"You expect anything less from me?"

[justlurkinghere]

That got a surprised laugh as Derek lay back. "No. Not really."

[robinonadderall]

"I just want to see you," he said. "I don't need a surprise."

[justlurkinghere]

"I'm here now," Derek offered.

[robinonadderall]

"Doesn't feel the same," he said.

[justlurkinghere]

"It doesn't," Derek admitted with a sigh. "I don't think it ever will."

[robinonadderall]

"Me either," he said, frowning. "It's just four years, right? That's not...okay, it's a long time."

[justlurkinghere]

"I want you here in our bed," Derek replied with a sigh.

[robinonadderall]

"I want that too," he murmured. "It still stinks like me though, right?"

'Cause that was important.

[justlurkinghere]

"It still smells like you," Derek replied with a quiet laugh. "Us. I wish you had that there."
