Scott had earned so many best friend points Monday night when he picked Stiles up from the hotel Derek oh so kindly abandoned him in. He had since spent the last four days moping, eating junk food, hanging out with his dad and listening to Scott come up with increasingly more creative ways to kill Derek. Which was amusing, but didn't necessarily make him feel better.

He was supposed to be hanging out with Lydia and Allison later which probably meant that he'd be their living shopping cart while they went to Macy's or something while they told him how he should deal with his current situation.

He could probably use some solid advice, now that he thought about it. Which would be why he was pausing his current moping session to pick up the phone and call Kitty.

Well that dropped Kitty's jaw, not that Stiles could see it. And she'd had enough rejection happen from older guys she'd really really really been interested in to be sympathetic/outraged on his behalf.

"...Oh my god, he didn't. What the hell, Derek."

"Yeah." He had rehashed the story enough to not get overly emotional about it by now, but it still felt like a stab to the chest. "I cried like the total wuss that I am and he left me alone in the hotel. I had Scott come and get me."

Sure, he had the rental car keys but he had been in no state to drive. He had already wrecked one car this year, thank you.

"Oh honey. I'm going to beat him up," Kitty decided. "Where are you now?"

"Beacon Hills," he said. "I really don't want to risk running into him in Fandom."

[throughaphase]

"Totally can't blame you. How are you doing?" Probably a loaded question.

[robinonadderall]

"I'm embarrassed and ashamed and pissed off," he said. "I'm not stupid; I knew that he and I weren't going to be a thing, that's why I kept it to myself. He didn't have to rub it in my face. Lydia never did and she's known I've had a crush on her since the third grade."

Lydia had just ignored Stiles which he was now thankful for now that he had experienced flat out rejection.

"And he completely ruined our friendship." Which obviously trumped any embarrassment he might have felt. "Even if he apologizes how am I supposed to even be in the same room as him again?"

"I know it feels that way now, but fixing the friendship is possible," Kitty told him. "I've been where you are. I'm not saying it'll definitely be fixed, but you both have to want it. It just takes time. Maybe a lot of time. And it takes the other person to not be an ass about it."

"It won't be the same," Stiles said. "Besides, he doesn't seem to want to be friends with a desperate teenager anyway."

"It doesn't sound like that's what he said. And if he didn't want to be friends, he wouldn't be going anywhere with you," Kitty pointed out. "Derek's natural reaction is to shove people away, and it sounds like he said the worst thing he could come up with whether he feels that way or not. It doesn't excuse that he said it at all, though."

"He could have come up with something else," Stiles mumbled. There may have been a sniffle there as well "That was just--it was the worst thing he could have said to me. Nobody has ever made me feel like that before. This was like five minutes after I said he was my best friend too."

"That's why he did it. He knew how much it'd hurt. That's what makes it such an asshole thing to do," she said. "You didn't deserve this at all."

[robinonadderall]

"I probably shouldn't have started off by sharing that tidbit of my Derek's past," Stiles said. "But yeah, it was an asshole thing to do, and I don't know what to do next."

[throughaphase]

"How long are you planning on staying in Beacon Hills?" Kitty wondered.

[robinonadderall]

"I have class on Monday." He did not switch schools, no matter how appealing it seemed to be in his more dramatic moments.

[throughaphase]

"Well, you don't have to deal with Derek anymore than you want to, and I wouldn't try until you feel ready for that," Kitty advised. "If you run into him, you're totally within your right to just turn and walk away until you're okay with seeing him."

[robinonadderall]

"He'd probably prefer it that way," Stiles said bitterly. "I hope you punch him in the face next time you see him. Or get Mr. Barton to do it."

[throughaphase]

"Depending on what he says, it could always happen," Kitty said. "I think Clint might have to be kept separate from him for a little while."

[robinonadderall]

"Nah, I think Mr. Barton should punch him." It'd make him feel better!

Well, if Stiles said it... "I could tell him. It'd be like a late Christmas present."

[robinonadderall]

"Just warn him he might run the risk of hurting his hand," Stiles said. "It hurts to punch a werewolf."

Stiles having done it before.

Clint hurting himself wasn't really anything new. "You're really serious about this, huh?"

[robinonadderall]

Stiles shrugged even though Kitty couldn't see it. "I'm pissed off."

[throughaphase]

"And rightfully so. If I was there, you'd be getting hugs right now," Kitty said.

[robinonadderall]

"You can give me them when I get back to town," he said. "Thanks for listening to me whine."

[throughaphase]

"This isn't whining. It's a natural reaction to what's gotta be like the top three worst feelings in the world," she said. "Besides, that's what I'm here for."

[robinonadderall]

"I still appreciate it," he said quietly. "I haven't felt this bad in awhile, and that's including the nightmares."

[throughaphase]

"It'll get better," Kitty promised. "It's going to hurt for a while, but when you get a little distance from it, it starts stinging less."

[robinonadderall]

"Yeah, I keep telling myself that," he said. "It just sucks. I thought...I don't know, I think I was counting on him to be there for me. Which wasn't fair, I know, but it still sucks."

[throughaphase]

"Well, friends are supposed to be there for each other. It's not wrong of you to count on him for that," Kitty told him. "I think he's just differently emotioned than most other people, and the closest to him get hit with it."

[robinonadderall]

"I guess," Stiles said. "I'll get over it."

Maybe. Probably.

[throughaphase]

"You will." Eventually. Kitty's issues on this subject still reared their ugly heads seven years later. "I'll tell Clint he's got permission, and maybe I can get the squirrels to get some pictures. Anything to make the process easier."

[robinonadderall]

"Thanks," Stiles said, huffing out a laugh. "I'll see you after the weekend. I'll try to make stealthy appearances in town."

"And you're always welcome at my place if you need to hide out," she said. "Take care of yourself, okay?"

"I will," he said. "See you, Kitty."
