Stiles practically ran to the mansion after returning to Fandom. He hadn't seen Derek for a week, hadn't talked to him in two days, and he put together enough from his last texts to know that crap was going down in Beacon Hills. He knew logically that if Derek had been dealing with anything Stiles had already been through then he'd make it out okay. Still. He wanted to see him.

"Derek?" Stiles called when he stepped through the doorway. "Derek?"

When he got no answer and saw that the ground floor was empty, he started going up the stairs. "Okay, I'm going to your room now. I know I'm not supposed to be there but it's your fault for not answering me."

"Derek, are you even home?"

Derek shrugged, having to force away fangs that felt wrong in his mouth still.

"No, don't shrug at me, tell me what happened," Stiles said. "Did he hurt you?"

Derek gave him a look that was searching. Because wasn't it just sad that he was used to people not caring about that? "No. He was just in the room with your friend's little girlfriend while Kate had her fun."

"Allison was being manipulated by her own family member, she didn't know any better," Stiles said. "Clint is old enough to know what was happening to you was wrong."

Oh, he used his first name, you know he was mad.

Derek gave no fucks about Allison's feelings! Mostly because of the romantic exchanges between her and Scott after she'd shot Derek several times.

"I really don't think he cares," Derek replied dryly. "I'm just a dangerous monster after all."

"I'm tired of him using that bullshit excuse," Stiles said. "You have given him no reason to think you'd hurt somebody and I have told him that several times. He let you be tortured, Derek!"

"I threatened you." With all the backup to it as a toothless cat, but still.

"Everybody threatens me at one point or another," Stiles said. "Jackson's been threatening me since kindergarten. That's not an excuse."

"Stiles, it's not worth--" The anger, said his mother's voice in his head. But the newly alpha part wanted to rip apart anyone who threatened his tiny pack.

"I'm not--it's not like I'm about to leave to confront him," he said, flopping down on the couch. "But he could have helped you."

"I didn't expect him to." That didn't help at all. But was realistic after he was blackmailed into helping Scott.

"Doesn't make me any less pissed at him," he said. "I mean, I know I don't have a lot of room to judge since I didn't say anything to you but he was right there."

"I wouldn't have believed you," Derek admitted with a sigh. His life. Oh, his life.

"There is something you do need to believe me about," Stiles told him. "Peter comes back."

Derek gave him a sharp look. "How."

"Lydia. When he bit Lydia he activated her banshee powers," he said. "He manipulated her, made her think she was crazy and used her to bring him back to life."

Yeah, that was a thing that could happen.

"He's been skulking around Beacon Hills ever since. Kitty's met him. He's in my phone as Uncle Douchebag."

Oh, that was so not happening. "I won't let him have the chance back home," Derek snarled, voice doing that creepy distorted thing.

The voice definitely made Stiles jump. "That's why I told you. I don't know how to stop him from getting into Lydia's head but maybe you could make sure he can't physically come back."

No big deal, he'd just dig up his dead uncle and cut him in half. Like you do.

"I'll find out." Wait a minute. "A banshee?"

"Yeah. That was our reaction. Well after we ignored her clear cries for help during the few months Peter was screwing with her head." He still felt bad about that. "She's only now getting the hang of it."

"They're not... common." Unlike, say, kitsunes. Or whatever other monster the show feels like having happen.

"The whole thing sounds like it sucks," he said. "Screaming when someone dies, hearing dead people's voices. Scary shit."

"Abilities always balance out," Derek said, taking a seat next to Stiles and stifling the urge to aggressively scent mark him so that Lydia knew Stiles was his.

There could be innocent scent marking! If there was such a thing.

"I hope she can find the upside soon," Stiles said. "Or I guess not too soon since that'd probably still involve death."
