A Denny's On the Mainland | Sunday Afternoon

Apparently Derek had been blessed (heh) with other children, so it was up to Stiles to keep Claudia happy for at least part of the day. It was easier than he thought it would be, especially if he kept his own issues out of his head. He didn't want a repeat of yesterday.

So he was sitting at a table with his daughter, letting her eat her way through a stack of pancakes while he read over texts he had gotten from Derek. "I think Der--uh, Daddy's on his way here. Something about being mad at me letting you ride in the jeep...wow, wait until he finds out I let you drive it."

It was just around the parking lot! And she was only steering, he was working the gears and pedals. Perfectly safe.

[For the baby daddy and his children. And anybody else if you want to be at the nearest Denny's, sure. It's the haven of dads who don't know what to do with their children iirc from my childhood]

Derek had to take the time to rent a family friendly car to transport his children here. Which involved interrogating the poor lady at the rental place about the NHTSA rating of each car they had to offer.

Because not everyone was cavalier about the safety of their fake children from futures that might not happen, Stiles!

"That jeep is a death trap." Hi, Derek. Thanks for introducing your other kids.

"Wow, he was always like this, wasn't he?" Talia asked, pushing in next to Claudia to take a bite of the pancake pile.

At least Petra was the one with manners in this group.

"Hi," she said brightly. "I'm Petra. And that's Talia."

"Those are my pancakes." Excuse you, only child here. No sharing for her!

"The jeep is fine," Stiles said. "And hi, nice to meet Derek's other kids. Looks like he's got quite a decision to make in the future to see who he wants to be a babydaddy for."

Talia snorted at that, pointedly taking another bite of pancakes. "Yeah, that's gonna happen again. I got dad's girlfriend to film his response to who the 'mommy' was. Priceless."

"My mom's Kitty Pryde," Petra chimed in, eyeing those pancakes covetously. "Her other dad is Hawkeye. It's kinda weird and incestuous."

Derek batted at Talia's hand before trying to flag down a waitress who wasn't scared off by his scowling. Barton. Seriously?

Stiles really looked like he was trying not to laugh. "Well those are good parents to have. Even if Derek might not fully agree. And Claudia, learn to share."

Ha, what a hypocrite. Like Stiles shared a thing in his life.

Claudia's response to that was a scowl and an attempt to stuff every single pancake in her mouth at once.

"We're ordering more pancakes," Derek said, trying not to sigh at the chipmunk cheeks going on there. Trying and failing.

"If you throw up--Stiles has to clean it up."

That was a lie, they both knew which dad would be doing that.

"Can I just get fruit?" Petra said with a sigh that was all Hale. "Not a werewolf here. I don't have a weird metabolism."

Beyond 'teenage girl'.

"Sucks to be you," Talia drawled, turning her attention fully on Stiles. "You're cute."

Talia. Talia, no.

What. What was happening here? "...thank you?"

Should he say she was cute in return or would that be an AU kid faux pas?

"You can have the fruit that's on my pancakes," Claudia said to Petra, not noticing the awkward. There. Sharing.

"Aww, thank you!" And that was why Petra was the resident babysitter for the X-Men.

"You're very welcome," Talia said, tilting her head like she was trying to see if he was cute everywhere.

Until Derek noticed and gave her a sharp look, followed by a sub-vocal noise that was almost a growl. Maybe. If you were a werewolf.

So. Sorry, Claudia.

Which made Claudia lift up her eyebrows in alarm. 'Cause that was a displeased alpha sound and she couldn't pinpoint why.

"Daddy's being weird," Claudia whispered loudly to Stiles.

"Daddy, stop being weird," Stiles said automatically. He'd turn red at calling Derek that later. "And order some food."

He managed to catch the eye of a waitress who was brave enough to be around Derek's scowly face.

Derek looked embarrassed enough that that whole serial killer look faded away. Which meant he was able to order pretty much half the menu.

Everyone was so lucky he had the money to pay to feed these kids.

"Aaaaanyway," Talia said, totally smug over getting a reaction out of her dad. "How'd dad nail you? He's kinda bad at socializing."

Petra kicked her under the table, not holding back on it. Because werewolves. Ugh, her life was filled with mutants and werewolves.

"He's introverted," she corrected in a way that was trying to be helpful. But she got those helpful genes from Derek. So.

Stiles almost choked on his orange juice at the question. "There's been no nailing. None. Nobody's nailed anybody."

"What's nailing?" Look what you did, Talia.
