Okay, Stiles wanted to at least be a little bit impressive with his final project in Dr. Lecter's class, which would be why he wasn't going to write a paper or make peanut butter and jelly. Instead he had asked his dad to send one of his mother's old cookbooks and was attempting to make knedle serowo-truskawkowe. It was something she used to make for him and Scott when they were kids.

"Attempting" being the key word here. The first batch for his trial run was a burnt mess so now he was starting over, getting a fresh sheen of flour all over everything in the kitchen. It covered up the chunks of unused dough and smushed up strawberries from the first batch nicely.

At least he hadn't tried to make golabki. Then the kitchen would stink like cabbage in addition to being a mess.

Derek's shoulders relaxed slightly at that before he tossed more flour on the dough to roll it out. "The recipe tells you what to do. As long as you follow that, it's hard to mess up."

Aww, he was being all insightful to his own psyche without even really meaning to!

"You don't have ADHD do you?" he asked. Because following recipes was hard when your mind was going in about fifty different directions at once.

"It was a rhetorical question," he said. "My point is that it's hard to follow instructions or stick around long enough to see a recipe through unless I've had a lot of Adderall."

Derek made a noise of acknowledgement at that. Considering his limited experience with not having his abilities, it was still strange to think.

"Explains the scorched pan." HOW DO YOU SCORCH A PAN WITH BOILING DUMPLINGS?

"I can replace that." At least it hadn't been the heart shaped one.

THE HEART SHAPED ONE COULD BURN IN HELL.

"You better," Derek grumbled, carefully cutting the dough into the appropriately sized squares. If the ones on the ends looked a little funny... those were the tester dumplings. "You can add the strawberries."

Under supervision.

"Oh that I can do," he said. "It was the part I was allowed to do as a kid. And only me. Scott kept eating the raw dough so he had to stay in the living room until everything was finished."

"Somehow that doesn't surprise me," Derek replied dryly. Because he held no hope for the future of Beacon Hills. But there was a very faint smile going on as he said it.

"Oh yeah, that kid used to eat everything in sight even before he was a werewolf," Stiles said as he put strawberries into the dumplings. "My mom never seemed to care that he cleaned out the pantry every time he was at our house. And he was over there a lot 'cause his parents worked all the time."

Derek picked up the ones with the strawberries, twisting and pinching the edges up into a little pouch. "You've known him that long?"

"Well yeah," Stiles said. "Scott, Lydia, Jackson, we all went to school together from the the start, pretty much. Not that we hung out with Jackson and Lydia before the werewolf thing. It was just me and Scott hanging out together until Allison moved to town."

"Beacon Hills," Derek muttered. Cora would have been about the right age to have known the group no doubt. "Can't even remember any of the names of my high school friends."

You know. Barring one.

Yeah, Stiles knew that was a lie but he so was not going to call Derek out on that.

"Well I'm handsome and charming so it's no surprise I've gathered so many memorable high school friends." There, that would keep Derek from getting all broody and silent.

No one wanted to see him be brooding. It was annoying as all hell.

"Charming? Really?"

"So charming," Stiles said with a nod. "The charmingiest."

That was now a word.

"I'm charmed," Derek drawled. Because it wasn't a word.

"Damn right you are," he said, patting Derek's shoulder with a flour-covered hand. That might have been on purpose.

Derek smiled at him, picking up some of the reject dough and shoving it into Stiles' face. Because that's just how charmed he was.

"Wha--eww!" Dough felt weird. Stiles blindly reached out until he grabbed a handful of flour and threw it at Derek.

There, look like the opening credits, Derek.

The noise Derek made was somewhere between indignation and a startled laugh. Lets go with the former for safety. "You little shit!"

Well, hope you were expecting a headlock, Stiles.

"Oh my god this so isn't fair," Stiles grumbled, trying to elbow Derek in the ribs. "This is cheating!"

Deal with it, Stiles. Derek took his sweet time grabbing flour to work into Stiles' hair for his revenge. Because that was mature.

This was so mature, they weren't acting like flirtatious elementary school students at all.

"No don't!" Stiles has to talk his way out of this since there was no way he could overpower Derek. "It's gonna get all gross when I shower!"

He obviously wasn't too pissed since he was laughing between words.

"Oh no. Whatever will I do?" Derek asked, voice going low and amused.
