"What makes you think I want to come home any time soon?"

Because Stiles really didn't, no matter how much Scott wanted it to happen. Or needed it to happen in this case, because apparently trying to teach a girl who had spent her formative years as a coyote to be more human was difficult, who knew?

"I know," Scott said. "But this is important. Teaching her how to control her abilities I can do. Teaching her that it's not okay to kill small woodland animals and eating them raw? I'm having a tougher time with."

"Ew." Stiles wrinkled up his nose at the thought even though Scott couldn't see his disgust over the phone. "What makes you think she'd listen to me?"

"She trusts you for some reason, dude." Scott said. "I think that time at Eichen House together helped."

"Right, that whole day and a half we spent together," Stiles said, rolling his eyes. Though he did feel bad Malia was having difficulty with everything. It was their fault she was human again. "Look, okay, I'll figure something out. But I can't spend my whole summer making trips to Beacon Hills all the time. Shit's expensive."

And he was worried enough about his financial situation at the moment.

"I get it, do what you can," Scott said. "Malia will really appreciate it. Deep down."

Because, yeah, she probably wouldn't show that she was thankful.

"Sure she will," Stiles said. "I'll talk to you later, Scott."

Stiles rolled his eyes and moved to go past Derek and head to the kitchen. "Fine, whatever."

Derek sighed, glaring down at his traitor of a dog who was following Stiles in hopes of getting fed. Or carried.

Who knew?

"How am I supposed to look?"

"You can look however you want," Stiles said, reaching down to scoop up Puppy Joe. "Forget I said anything."

"You're an adult." That was creepy to say, Derek. "You don't have to explain things to me."

And also ignoring how a healthy relationship should work.

"Yeah but we are in a relationship," Stiles said. "Communication is a thing there."

"And I'm trusting you to go back there." Sort of. Angrily. "I don't have to be happy about any of it."

[robinonadderall]

"You could, you know, actually say you wouldn't be happy about it." Communication! "And tell me what you need to trust me about."

Derek shot him a deeply annoyed look. Because they somehow managed a lot of communication here still.

"How have your last few trips home gone?"

[robinonadderall]

And Stiles responded with an annoyed look of his own. "Wait, hold on a second, are you saying that you need to trust me to not get attacked or possessed while I'm at home? It's not like I do it on purpose."

"I know that," Derek snapped. "Would rather have me follow you there every time? Or try to keep you from going? "

"So you acknowledge it's not my fault, but you still need to trust me to not get attacked while I'm there," he said. "I'm confused as to what you want me to do to avoid the thing that's not my fault."

"Something else?" Derek suggested, looking sullen and defensive. "I don't know. I'm not telling you what you should do."

Because for one, Stiles would do the opposite.

"Oh my god!" Stiles put down the dog because he didn't want him to get motion sickness from the amount of flailing Stiles wanted to do. "If I didn't know I'd break my hand I'd punch you in the face right now."

For being a frustrating douche.

It was part of his charm, yes.

"Well, I don't know what's going to happen with you!" Derek snapped. Because that would help them make up. Sure. "I don't get some cheat sheet for what'll happen next to you!"

"I don't know what's going to happen to me either!" he near shouted. "Jesus, Derek, I'm going to go teach a 17-year-old girl not to eat squirrels and how to use a smartphone, not fight a pack of were-whatevers single handed! If something came up I'd fucking tell you."

The poor dog was probably getting such anxiety right now.

The dog was running around them in circles, barking to break this up .

Derek still looked sullen, but he was backing down at the shouting. "Will you?"

"Yes," Stiles said. "Would you like it in writing?"

It would make him feel better about this, yes.

Derek stared at him for a moment, ignoring how the dog was jumping at his shin. "No."

He sighed, crossing his arms over his chest.

"Good." 'Cause he wasn't going to do that. "I'm sorry, Derek, but this girl needs help and it's our fault she's in this situation in the first place. I have to go."

"Don't--" He swallowed, trying to figure out his words and failing at that. His shoulders slumped as the fight died out of him. "Alright. Okay."

"It'll be once a week, at most," Stiles said, moving closer to Derek. "I'll give Malia my number, teach her how to use a smartphone and then she can call me whenever she wants. I won't have to go there for every problem she has."

At least the dog had stopped barking too. And now was trying to use Derek's foot as a pillow. Because he was soooo exhausted.

Derek just nodded at that. Because using his words had not ended so well here.

Stiles gave Derek an expectant look for a moment, as if to say 'well are you going to say something, you buttface?'.

But when that didn't happen he just looked down at the dog and huffed. That was cute.

Derek gave him a look right on back with eyebrows that said 'am I supposed to say something here?'
