"What makes you think I want to come home any time soon?"

Because Stiles really didn't, no matter how much Scott wanted it to happen. Or needed it to happen in this case, because apparently trying to teach a girl who had spent her formative years as a coyote to be more human was difficult, who knew?

"I know," Scott said. "But this is important. Teaching her how to control her abilities I can do. Teaching her that it's not okay to kill small woodland animals and eating them raw? I'm having a tougher time with."

"Ew." Stiles wrinkled up his nose at the thought even though Scott couldn't see his disgust over the phone. "What makes you think she'd listen to me?"

"She trusts you for some reason, dude." Scott said. "I think that time at Eichen House together helped."

"Right, that whole day and a half we spent together," Stiles said, rolling his eyes. Though he did feel bad Malia was having difficulty with everything. It was their fault she was human again. "Look, okay, I'll figure something out. But I can't spend my whole summer making trips to Beacon Hills all the time. Shit's expensive."

And he was worried enough about his financial situation at the moment.

"I get it, do what you can," Scott said. "Malia will really appreciate it. Deep down."

Because, yeah, she probably wouldn't show that she was thankful.

"Sure she will," Stiles said. "I'll talk to you later, Scott."

Let's be honest, Stiles. Those were gonna happen regardless.

"You're going back to Beacon Hills?" Derek asked, changing the subject away from his canine habits. And onto his weird eavesdropping.

He cleared his throat. "Yeah, maybe. Scott needs help with something."

"Something?" Yes, Derek. Something.

Like 'things' and 'stuff'.

"Yeah, you remember that girl Malia?" he said. "Coyote girl?"

[justlurkinghere]

"Yeah." With the strong brow game and magical language skills learned from the woodland critters.

[robinonadderall]

"Well Scott's been teaching her how to control her powers and that's been going okay." She hadn't mauled anybody to death by accident, anyway. "But she's having trouble with the human aspect of things and Scott thinks I can help."

So, doing slightly better than season 1 Scott.

"Oh." Derek forced down the possessive reaction of 'mine!', frowning as he did. "Alright."

"I got to know her at Eichen House," Stiles explained. "So Scott thinks she might trust me more with that stuff. I told him I don't want to spend all my time there but it's not like I can say no."

So that was the girl the nogitsune mentioned.

"You don't have to explain things," Derek replied. Because he was reluctantly trying this whole trust thing.

"Well I want to explain things." Because he didn't think Derek trusted him at all at this point.

"Fine." Wow, you two. Wow.

Why didn't your tender lovemaking solve this?

"Is it really fine?" 'Cause you had this look on your face like it wasn't, Derek.

Those were just his eyebrows! They didn't trust anyone. It was sad, really.

"I don't have a look." He had a look. It was pretty surly.

"You kind of do," he said. "I know your looks and you have one."

Damn his expressive, soulful eyes!

"I can have any look I want." Maybe one with makeup next!

Stiles rolled his eyes and moved to go past Derek and head to the kitchen. "Fine, whatever."

Derek sighed, glaring down at his traitor of a dog who was following Stiles in hopes of getting fed. Or carried.

Who knew?

"How am I supposed to look?"

[robinonadderall]

"You can look however you want," Stiles said, reaching down to scoop up Puppy Joe. "Forget I said anything."

"You're an adult." That was creepy to say, Derek. "You don't have to explain things to me."

And also ignoring how a healthy relationship should work.

"Yeah but we are in a relationship," Stiles said. "Communication is a thing there."

[justlurkinghere]

"And I'm trusting you to go back there." Sort of. Angrily. "I don't have to be happy about any of it."

[robinonadderall]

"You could, you know, actually say you wouldn't be happy about it." Communication! "And tell me what you need to trust me about."

Derek shot him a deeply annoyed look. Because they somehow managed a lot of communication here still.

"How have your last few trips home gone?"

[robinonadderall]

And Stiles responded with an annoyed look of his own. "Wait, hold on a second, are you saying that you need to trust me to not get attacked or possessed while I'm at home? It's not like I do it on purpose."

"I know that," Derek snapped. "Would rather have me follow you there every time? Or try to keep you from going? "
