Beacon Hills High | Evening

"Come on! Is that thing even a teenager!? I want to see a birth certificate!" Coach Finstock cried. The team was getting pummeled pretty bad, particularly by a huge kid who seemed to enjoy checking all the Beacon Hills players. Coach sat down next to Stiles on the bench. "Who or what is that genetic experiment gone wrong?"

"Eddie Obomawitz," Stiles answered. "They call him the Abomination."

Coach Finstock rolled his eyes. "Oh that's cute."

Stiles hadn't even bothered to dress for the lacrosse game, even if Coach Finstock still seemed to think Stiles was still on the team. Instead of his jersey he wore his red tracksuit, not really caring if it drew Red Riding Hood comparisons. If he had it his way he wouldn't be running into any wolves tonight. Save for Scott.

He was dumb sometimes.

Stiles turned his head towards where Allison and her grandfather were sitting. Allison had managed to sucker her way into getting to wear her grandfather's coat and was now slyly holding out the keys to the side for Stiles to take. Since nobody ever needed Stiles during these games he didn't even let anyone know he was leaving, just getting up and taking the keys from Allison's hand and heading up to the school.

He ended up stopping in the parking lot when he heard crying. Upon further investigation (he walked closer) he saw it was Lydia crying in her car. Stiles was immediately struck with guilt, knowing that he had kind of been avoiding her since their failed date, but in his defense there were giant lizards around.

"Hey, Lydia," Stiles said, approaching her car window. "What's wrong?"

"Just go away," Lydia said. "I don't need anyone seeing me cry!"

"Aw come on, Lydia, you shouldn't care if people see you cry," he said. "Especially you."

Lydia looked up at him, looking more curious than upset. "Why?"

Stiles leaned down and put his arms against her car door. "Because I think you look really beautiful when you cry."

It was such a weird thing to say. Such a weird thing. But Lydia didn't seem to mind. "You're gonna think I'm crazy..."

"Lydia, if you can trust me on anything, you can trust me on this: There is nothing you can say to me that will make you sound crazy. Literally nothing." Stiles squeezed his hand against the keys he was holding absently and remembered there was some serious pressing issues he needed to attend to. He gave Lydia an apologetic look. "Can...can you give me like five minutes?"

Lydia looked at him like he was the biggest asshole on the planet and he was. He was the biggest asshole on Earth, he knew that.

"I know! I'm sorry! Just stay here, continue crying...or not crying, whatever you want," Stiles said, already turning to leave. "But just stay here and I'll be back and then we can talk. Five minutes, I swear!"

God, he hated his life. Stiles ran as fast as he could to Argent's office and unlocked the door. He didn't bother trying to be careful, tossing papers and flinging open desk drawers in search of the beastiary. It quickly became clear it wasn't there though and he texted Allison to tell that.

Of course when he turned to leave and go back to Lydia he was stopped by Erica. Because he was just that lucky. She gave Stiles a smile and grabbed his arm, digging her nails in hard. "Hello, Stiles."

Just fucking great.

Erica marched Stiles to the school's pool where Derek was waiting for him. And for some reason he was holding a basketball. Seriously was there a school that taught you to be creepy and uncomfortable?

"Stiles," Derek said in way of a greeting. "What'd you see at the mechanic's garage?"

"Several alarming EPA violations that I'm seriously considering reporting--" Stiles sarcastic little spiel was interrupted by Derek popping the basketball with his claws. "Hoooooooly god."

Derek smiled and dropped the remains of the basketball. "Let's try that again."

Stiles sighed. "Alright. The thing was pretty slick looking, Um, skin was dark, kind of like a pattern---I actually think I saw scales. Is that enough? Okay, because I have somebody I really need to talk to--oh fine, Derek, stop glaring! Eyes, it's eyes were yellowish and slitted. Had a lot of teeth. Oh and it's got a tail too. Are we good?"

At some point while Stiles was talking both Derek and Erica stopped looking at him and instead focused on a spot right behind him, both of them looking startled. "What, have you seen it? You both have this look on this faces like you know exactly what I'm talking about--oh."

Stiles turned around to see said giant lizard creature crawling over the bars to inch closer to where they were. Stiles immediately backed up so he was behind Derek because he wasn't stupid, thank you. The lizard lashed out, knocking Erica out with one blow.

Derek turned and shoved Stiles in the chest. "RUN!"

For some reason that fangirls would look way too closely into Derek had turned his back on the lizard to shove Stiles and the lizard responded to that bit of stupidity by clawing Derek in the back of the neck. Stiles recognized that move from the garage and immediately reached out to support Derek as he lost his balance.

Stiles put Derek's arm around him and started half-carrying him in the opposite direction of the lizard. "Where is it, do you see it?!"

"No, but I can hear it!" Derek said. "Call Scott!"

Derek was getting heavier, which meant the paralysis was taking over quickly. Stiles tried to grab his phone out of his pocket but only succeeded in dropping the phone and losing his hold on Derek, who fell into the pool. Stiles spared the phone a brief glance before diving into the pool after Derek.

Again, just fucking great.

Derek was sinking to the bottom of the pool like a rock, but Stiles managed to grab him. When they resurfaced Stiles pulled Derek's arm over his shoulder to make it easier to hold him above water. He wasn't as heavy now as he had been on land but it was still difficult for Stiles to hold his weight.

"Where'd it go?" Stiles asked, coughing a little as he inhaled some water. "Do you see it?"

"No," Derek said, voice sounding strangled thanks to the paralysis.

"Maybe it took off."

A screeching noise echoed the room, answering Stiles' question.

"Maybe not," Derek said. "Will you get me out of here before I drown?"

"You're afraid of drowning?" Stiles asked, incredulous. "Did you not notice the thing out there with multiple rows of razor sharp teeth?"

"Did you notice I'm paralyzed from the neck down in eight feet of water?!"

It really said something about their relationship when they could still bicker like an old married couple when one was paralyzed and the other was treading water to save both of their lives.

"Okay, I don't see it," Stiles said, starting to swim his way towards the edge.

"Wait wait wait!" Derek shouted and it didn't take Stiles long to realize why he did it. The lizard appeared by the edge of the pool, hissing at Derek and Stiles. It crawled close to the edge but didn't jump it.

"What's it waiting for?" Stiles asked.

The lizard crawled a bit closer to the edge and tried to stick it's hand in the water, only to pull it back, hissing.

"I don't think it can swim," Stiles said, tightening his hold on Derek. It looked like they were going to be here for a while.
