Stilinski House and Beyond | Evening
Derek |
This wasn't even Derek's house and he ended up in the goddamn kitchen. Because apparently someone needed drinks for his murder wall explanation. Creepy murder walls. This was coming from the guy who lived in the burned out hull of the place his family died, okay? Rethink your life choices. |
Lydia |
Lydia wasn't particularly interested in the murder wall explanation but she didn't feel like being alone after the day she had today. So she was indulging Stiles and quite possibly knowingly cockblocking Derek and Stiles from getting it on in his childhood bedroom. Perverts, the both of you. "What do the different color strings mean?" |
Stiles |
"Just different stages of the investigation," Stiles said around a mouthful of marker he was chewing on. "Green is solved, yellow is to be determined...blue is just pretty." |
Lydia |
Yeah that was all well and good but he was missing a color. "What does red mean?" |
Stiles |
"Uh, unsolved." Don't say it, don't say it... |
Lydia |
"...you only have red on the board." Come on, she had to say it. |
Stiles |
Stiles sighed. "Yes, I'm aware. Thank you." |
Lydia |
Lydia shrugged a shoulder and started wrapping extra yarn around her fingers. "I'm sorry for getting you in trouble with Coach." |
Stiles |
"It's fine. Won't be the last time I'll get in trouble with him," Stiles said. "We were on to something." |
Lydia |
"Even though we couldn't find any proof of Barrow being there?" Despite her best efforts to hide it, Lydia sounded extremely unnerved. She didn't want people thinking she was crazy again. |
Stiles |
Stiles seemed to understand that worry because he was immediately turning away from his own wall of crazy and crouching down in front of Lydia. "Hey, you've been right every time something like this has happened. Okay, so don't start doubting yourself now." |
Lydia |
"No sight of him, no bomb...and I got you in trouble." Granted, getting in trouble with Coach was not a big deal, but still. |
Stiles |
"Okay, look. Barrow was there, alright? You knew it, you felt it. Okay?" Stiles reached out for Lydia's hand and started untangling the knot she made around her fingers. "And if you wanted to I would go back to that school and search all night just to prove it to you." |
Lydia |
Lydia smiled slightly and nodded, stretching her fingers out now that blood was rushing back to them. She didn't necessarily believe Stiles, but it was nice to have someone not question her after the whole Peter thing. |
Stiles |
Stiles smiled back for a moment, unconsciously moving to stick the marker back in his mouth. He didn't have an oral fixation, you had an oral fixation. The marker didn't reach its final destination though. Instead Stiles got distracted by the strong chemical smell of it. And that's when it hit him. "Get up, put your shoes on," Stiles ordered, standing up. "Derek! We're going to the school!" |
Derek |
Derek carefully put the previously requested soda down on a coaster, looking away from a few ridiculous childhood pictures of Stiles. He exhaled, grabbing his jacket and keys to wait for them. |
Stiles |
"Who said you were driving?" Stiles said, stumbling down the stairs at the speed of someone who had a brilliant realization. Lydia was going slower because of heels. |
Lydia |
"Are you going to explain what's going on or are you going to wait until we get there?" she asked, finally getting down the stairs. The things she wore for the sake of fashion. |
Stiles |
"The last one, I want to be sure first," Stiles said. "But come on, let's move, a life hangs in the balance or something. Maybe. Whatever, he's after glowy eyed people and we know glowy eyed people." He gestured at Derek. "I am dating a glowy eyed person. This is serious." |
Derek |
Derek gave him a look that was more suspicious than anything else, tightening the grip he had on his keys. "I'm driving," he said, brushing past to get to his family friendly rental car. |
Lydia |
Lydia was nice and didn't say a thing about Derek's family friendly car on the way to the school. She was realizing they almost got along so long as they didn't acknowledge each other ever. So it was a quiet trip to the school which was fine, if boring. She finally had to speak up when she figured out they were being led to the chem room. "So what are we looking for?" |
Stiles |
Stiles didn't reply, instead moving into the chem room and opening up the heavy door that led to the supplies. He let the door fall open dramatically on purpose. He liked to add some drama sometimes, shut up. |
Lydia |
"...that's supposed to be locked." |
Stiles |
"I know," he said, pulling out his phone and turning on the flashlight. "Notice anything else?" |
Lydia |
Lydia shrugged. "It smells like chemicals?" |
Derek |
Derek stayed in the doorway, keeping his eyes down and listening for anyone coming. "Understatement," he muttered to himself. |
Stiles |
"Exactly!" Stiles said excitedly. He and Kira could totally be buddies when it came to enjoying this morbid stuff. "If his scent was covered then Scott and Isaac wouldn't be able to sniff him out." |
Derek |
"Covered enough," Derek corrected dryly. Because you could still hear things if you paid enough attention. He forced himself to sniff and sort through the headache inducing chemical mix. "Still smells like there's blood in here somewhere." |
Stiles |
"Really?" Stiles moved his phone around until he could find the source of said smell. Eventually the light settled on several bloody staples on the floor. "He was here. Performing very minor surgery on himself, sick." |
Lydia |
"So I was right," Lydia said. "Then why don't I feel good about this?" |
Stiles |
"Probably because he was here to kill somebody," Stiles stated bluntly. "We just have to figure out who. Maybe there's something around here?" |
Lydia |
Lydia nodded and pushed past the guys to look around the chem room. She didn't know what she was looking for and she was worried about the lack of buzzing in the school now, but she would try her best to find something. |
Stiles |
Stiles wasn't sure what they were looking for either, if he was honest with himself. He really didn't want to admit they might have hit a dead end. "You hear anything?" he asked Derek. |
Derek |
"Just you two talking," Derek muttered, he reached over and flicked the light on. Because seriously. This was a high school, not Fort Knox. He should know. He broke in here enough. |
Stiles |
"This guy--we have to find him, Derek," Stiles said. "This guy placed a bomb full of nuts and bolts on a school bus and set it off." And there was another thing too. "And my dad really needs another win here. Scott's dad is still trying to get him fired." |
Derek |
Derek shot him a confused look. "How did he know to use the chemicals to keep from being smelled in a school? A bus bomb doesn't sound like the work of a hunter." |
Stiles |
"I know. From what Melissa said he didn't know what werewolves were either. He just saw people with glowing eyes," Stiles said, chewing on his lower lip nervously. "I think he may have had help from someone who does know about werewolves." |
Lydia |
"Hey, I think I found something," Lydia called out. She was standing in front of the chalkboard that had three numbers written on it. "I think they're atomic numbers." |
Stiles |
"Is it a formula?" Stiles asked as he moved closer. |
Lydia |
Lydia shook her head. "Not really. 19 is potassium, 53 is iodine, 88's radium. The first two make potassium iodide." She did pick up a piece of chalk and started putting down the letters each of the atomic numbers went to. |
Stiles |
Stiles frowned when the first element was a "K". It only got worse when he saw the second letter was "I". "...what's radium?" |
Lydia |
Lydia finished writing the last two letters on the chalkboard. "R. A." |
Derek |
"Kira?" Is he supposed to know what that was? Because Derek was really more about literature and languages than science, thanks. |
Stiles |
"She's a girl, she goes to school here," Stiles said. And in Fandom too, but Stiles doubted that was the one the message was for. "Barrow's going after her." |
Stiles |
Google was a great, brilliant thing because it somehow knew where Kira lived. Bless you, Google. It did not, however, warn him of the unconscious body in the middle of the street. "Is that Scott?!" |
Derek |
"Looks like it," Derek replied dryly. Because his level of caring for Scott wasn't terribly high for some reason. He stopped the car in front of the kid so no one would run him over. Probably. |
Stiles |
Stiles opened the door and almost got clotheslined by his seat belt because he forgot to take it off. Derek got a glare for that one 'cause it was totally his fault. Really. He scrambled out of the car once he did get the belt off and rushed over towards Scott. He had obviously been hit over the head, but wasn't completely unconscious. Just out of it. "Scott? Hey man, are you okay?" |
Scott |
"Stiles?" Scott sat up with a groan. "Kira--Barrow took her! We have to think of something, he's going to kill her!" |
Stiles |
"Yeah, we know. He was after her the whole time," Stiles said. "I just...I don't know where to go from here." |
Derek |
Derek was rolling his eyes at Stiles' complete lack of respect for the safety restraint systems. They were top of the line in this car. Top of the line. He was also taking care to keep an eye out for anything that might be nearby. Like the over-protective boyfriend he was. He thought about asking if anyone might have seen which way they went, but this was Beacon Hills. No one saw anything. Somehow. "Does she have a phone on her or something?" Look, it worked in the past. |
Lydia |
Lydia was ignoring your perfectly reasonable suggestion, Derek! "I knew he was there. When I heard the flies. How did I know that?" IGNORED, DEREK. "I feel like I can do this, but I don't know what to do. It's--it's like it's on the tip of my tongue and I don't know how to trigger it! I swear to god it literally makes me want to scream." |
Stiles |
"Okay, then scream," Stiles said. "Lydia, scream." He had mentioned Lydia's bansheeness to Derek before, right? Oh well, if he hadn't he was gonna learn now. |
Lydia |
Well it was solid advice so Lydia took him up on it. She took in a deep breath and let out a long, piercing scream right there in the middle of the street. |
Derek |
And oh god, Derek's ears! Why would you do this to werewolves? Why?! "That's not conspicuous," Derek snarled, trying to regain some hearing. |
Lydia |
Really, Derek? The professional locker room stalker is gonna play that card? Lydia didn't seem to hear the snark, instead looking like she had just released a good amount of pent up energy. Her head felt cleared and she was hearing that buzzing noise again, only this time it made sense to her. "It wasn't flies," she murmured. "That noise I was hearing, it was electricity." |
Stiles |
"Barrow was an electrical engineer, worked at the main power substation in town," Stiles said. Of course he had read up on everything Barrow today. "That might be where he took her." |
Scott |
Scott nodded, already grabbing his bike helmet. "I know where it is, I'm going on ahead and you guys catch up." |
Stiles |
Stiles watched Scott go, not even bothering to point out the benefits of strength in numbers. He learned his lesson during the coyote in the woods thing. "Hey," Stiles said, approaching Derek and grabbing the edges of his jacket. "You're not deaf, are you?" |
Derek |
"No, I'm not deaf," Derek snapped, batting at Stiles' hands with no force behind it because maybe it was nice to be fussed over. Shut up. He eyed Scott as he took off because apparently that was all that was necessary to rouse the kid from half unconscious. Great, another girl he was mooning over. |
Stiles |
"Just checking," he said, glad Lydia was heading to the car already. "Look, when we get there I'm going in with you. No arguments." |
Derek |
Derek huffed at that before nodding. And then pressed forward to rest his forehead on Stiles'. God, he was such a romantic. It was sickening. "C'mon. Before Scott gets himself killed." |
Stiles |
The drive to the power substation took a little longer than intended. Stiles wanted to say it was because Derek drove like a grandma. He didn't say it out loud, but he wanted to. Once the car was stopped he grabbed his metal bat out of the backseat and looked up at Lydia. "Stay here. Wait for the cops to come." |
Lydia |
"What? Why?" |
Stiles |
"I've only got the one bat," Stiles said, lifting it up. "Just stay here. Derek and I will be right back." He caught Derek's eye before nodding over at Scott's bike. He was obviously still here. Hopefully alive. |
Derek |
Excuse you! He drove like a reasonable person! Derek nodded back, adding, "Lock the doors." before following after Stiles into the creepy power station. Couldn't they go to Macy's for one of these things? Just once, Derek would like to go to Macy's. |
Stiles |
Maybe next time Peter goes evil you'll get your wish, Derek. "Let's try for the room with the main power generators," Stiles said, breaking out into a run. |
Derek |
Awww, you say the sweetest things, plots twists! "Stiles!" Derek hissed, wondering how Stiles could run like that now. Which would, of course, be when everything went to hell in the place. The lights went crazy and there were the requisite sparks flying. So you knew it was electrical! |
Stiles |
Stiles fell to a complete stop when the power surge happened. For a brief, brief moment he felt a twinge of something he couldn't put his finger on. Just a weird sense of dread or something that took over. It went as fast as it came so he didn't really even think about it. He shrugged it off after a moment, blinking several times and turning back towards Derek. "What the hell was that?" |
Derek |
"I'm guessing Scott," Derek replied, wrapping a hand around Stiles' wrist to keep him close. FOR SOME REASON. He sniffed the air, trying to ignore the scorching scent of ozone. "This way." |
Scott |
Well there was quite a sight to see once they got into the main room. For one thing, Barrow was dead. For another Kira was perfectly fine and Scott was looking at her with his mouth hanging open. Seriously, if you had just seen the shit he just saw your mouth would be hanging open too. |
Stiles |
"What, what's happening?" Stiles asked, keeping close to Derek. "That's--Barrow's dead. How--?" He wasn't clawed up so something else non-Scott related must have happened. |
Scott |
"Kira," Scott said. "Barrow tried to electrocute her and she just, like, sucked up the electricity and shocked him back." What the everloving fuck? |
Kira |
Kira looked just as shocked as Scott, almost. She was looking down at her own hands like she'd never seen them before. |
Derek |
"He's dead?" Derek confirmed, so not bothered by this nonsense. Because look at him knowing shit that you don't. Aw yeah. |
Stiles |
"Guy looks pretty crispy to me," Stiles said, looking down at him. Then, realizing that Kira might be traumatized about killing a dude, added, "Sorry." There. All better. |
Kira |
"I didn't mean to," she said, shaking her head. "I just wanted him to stop." |
Scott |
"How did you do that?" Come on, Scott. Look at her face. She obviously didn't know either. |
Derek |
Derek paused at that after crouching down to inspect Barrow in case there were any clues as to who was helping him. No such luck, but it never hurt to check. He so did not have the inclination to deal with more idiot teenagers with supernatural powers. Derek rubbed his head anyway and said, "Look at her, Scott." |
Scott |
"Okay?" She was hot, what of it? |
Derek |
"Look at her," Derek said again, letting his eyes go red for a moment. |
Scott |
Oh right, that was a thing. Scott let his eyes go red too before seeing what he was talking about. "What the hell is that?" Kira...was probably getting a little uncomfortable now. |
Stiles |
"What, what's happening?" he asked. "Stiles doesn't have special seeing powers." |
Derek |
"You're a kitsune," he told Kira, giving her a once over like he was trying to piece something together. |
Kira |
Kira's eyes widened a bit at that, but she nodded. She might have to sit down for a bit. Because what the hell, Beacon Hills. |
Stiles |
"How in the hell did you know that?" Stiles asked. |
Derek |
Derek sighed, looking over at Stiles before going on. "Contrary to what you might think, I do know a few things about the supernatural," he drawled before addressing Kira again. "We can see your aura because you haven't learned to hide it yet. Probably don't even know how many tails you'll have." |
Stiles |
"This is completely inappropriate because of the dead guy in the room," Stiles started. "But is completely hot when you're all knowledgeable like that." Just, you know. For the record. |
