Beacon Hills Woods | Afternoon
Stiles |
It was probably the world's most awkward car ride to the woods because Stiles had to drive both Derek and Lydia there. He honestly didn't know who would win if the two of them got into a fight, but he did know his jeep probably would have been a casualty. So he practically threw himself out of the car once he put it into park. Thankfully Scott was there and Isaac and Allison were pulling up. Stiles was not going to mention how tacky it was to hone in on your alpha's ex like Isaac was right now but...okay, he'd probably say something to Derek later. He'd go to the trouble of letting Lydia out of the backseat on his side because he had the feeling Derek wasn't going to be polite and do it. |
Derek |
No, Derek wasn't about to open the door for her. Because her hands weren't broken, Stiles. Perfectly functional hands there. He watched Stiles for a moment before turning his attention away. His arms crossed over his chest as he waited. |
Lydia |
"Anybody else think we're doing more harm than good?" Not quite the episode title but close enough. |
Scott |
"We're trying to keep a father from killing his own daughter." God, Lydia, he thought you were all aboard the "do good things all the time no matter what" train. |
Isaac |
"Actually we're trying to keep a guy from killing a coyote who's actually his daughter who we don't know how to change from a coyote back to his daughter." |
Stiles |
"Again with the not helping," Stiles said. "I won't feel bad if you punch him, Derek, just for the record." |
Derek |
You're not the boss of him, Stiles! Except how you are. Shut up. "I feel deeply reassured," Derek deadpanned at the whole premise. Ugh, sort of agreeing with Stiles' other crush. "What exactly is the plan?" Oh, ~true alpha~ Scott. |
Scott |
"Allison." Yep, that was the plan. "You brought it, right?" |
Allison |
Allison nodded and went to the trunk of her car where she pulled out a big gun. A very big gun. Yep, that was the plan. |
Scott |
"Right, so we find Malia and Allison will--" Whatever what Allison would do got interrupted by a gunshot firing off in the woods. "Oh no." Scott (without thinking, of course) barreled off into the woods and where Scott went Isaac was sure to follow. And for some reason Allison ran after the both of them. |
Lydia |
"Guys!" Lydia shouted. But of course it was too late. "Well that went exactly like I thought it would." |
Derek |
Derek sighed. Because he could have dragged Stiles off to watch a show about bearded mountain men, but noooo. He was in the woods with a homicidal idiot with a gun. "Does this happen a lot?" Oh god, he was willingly talking to Lydia. |
Lydia |
"The part where our plans never go according to plan?" she asked. "All the time." |
Stiles |
"I'm calling my dad," Stiles said, getting out his phone. "Maybe he knows where Tate is." |
Sheriff Stilinski |
Turns out the Sheriff did know where he was, actually. "The coyote--Malia, whatever, broke into Tate's house and stole the same doll it attacked Kira for. Tate ran off into the woods, I haven't been able to catch up with him--" |
Stiles |
"--It took the doll again, what the hell is so important about that doll?" Sorry, were you trying to say something? |
Sheriff Stilinski |
"I don't know, but listen to me--there are traps all over those woods, near the trails and probably near the car crash and Tate's out there with a rifle," Sheriff Stilinski said. "I want you to stay out of those woods, you got that? Stiles?" |
Stiles |
Too late, Stiles was already in the woods and he was hanging up on you. Sorry. "What is up with that doll? Why would she go from all the way to the school then back to the house just for the doll? One that was in the car wreck in the first place; we didn't find it in the coyote den." |
Derek |
"Traps. Wonderful," Derek muttered to himself. Because it wasn't eavesdropping when they were on the phone next to you. And you're a werewolf. And now he was pretty sure someone was going to get their leg broken. Because Scott's pack didn't seem cautious enough to avoid them. Or smart enough, to be honest. Sorry he wasn't sorry. |
Lydia |
Since Lydia hadn't heard the conversation she was focusing more on the doll mystery than the survival of her ankles. "What kind of doll was it?" |
Stiles |
"It's a doll, you know? It's got little arms, a big baby head...soulless eyes." Dolls were so creepy. "Actually I took a pic. Here." |
Lydia |
"That's Malia?" Lydia asked, pointing to the older girl in the picture. "Stiles, she's not holding the doll, her sister is." |
Stiles |
Stiles thought about that for a moment before the answer smacked him in the face. "I know what she's doing. I need my phone back." He dialed Scott's number and was not at all surprised when he got voicemail. "Scott, it's me, you've got to call me back as soon as you can. Malia left the doll at the car for her sister. It's like leaving flowers at a grave, 'kay and we stole the flowers. That's all she's trying to do, bring the flowers back to the grave. To the car wreck, that's where she's headed." He was a fucking genius. And also had a history of leaving flowers at graves. |
Derek |
Derek just planted wolfsbane with a rope spiral of revenge, so... "So, you guys antagonized the kid trapped as a coyote." Seemed legit. "Nevermind. Which way is the car?" So he could go alone. No ankle snapping for you, Stiles. None. |
Lydia |
Could there be no ankle snapping for anybody? Lydia would like there to be no ankle snapping for anybody. Especially since she just realized she had stepped on a trap. "Guys..." |
Stiles |
They should have somehow seen this coming. "Lydia, don't move!" She probably could have figured that one out on her own. |
Derek |
Derek didn't care about your delicate ankles, Lydia! Okay, he sorta did, but he didn't want to. Also, HOW THEY HELL DID THAT MANAGE TO HAPPEN? THEY WERE THERE FOR FIVE MINUTES. "You've got to be kidding me," Derek said staring down at the trap as he crouched down next to her. In case she needed balance as he looked. |
Lydia |
"Look for a warning label," Lydia said, unable to keep the fear out of her voice. "Instructions for how to disarm it." |
Stiles |
"Why the hell would they put instructions on the bottom of a trap?" Stiles said, crouching down on the other side. |
Lydia |
"Because animals can't read!" Seriously, Stilinski! |
Stiles |
Right. Scott McCall moment there. Stiles flattened himself a little further on the ground to try to find--yep, there was a label right on the side he was on. The only problem was that the words made absolutely no sense to him. He squeezed his eyes shut for a moment but when he opened them the words were still a jumble. "I can't--I can't read it. Derek you have to--I can't read anything." |
Derek |
Derek sighed, shifting around to grab each side of the trap. "Move," he snapped, letting the teeth dig into the palms of his hands. Only glowing red eyes to give away how unpleasant it was. |
Stiles |
Lydia really didn't need to be told twice. She stumbled back out of the trap and would have fallen straight on her ass if Stiles hadn't been there to catch her. There would be no ankle snapping here today! Except for maybe Isaac's. But he didn't count. |
Derek |
True dat. Isaac wasn't even in the opening credits, after all. Derek pulled on the metal with an angry roar, forcing it apart until the metal spring creaked under the pressure and finally snapped. He dropped the pieces, already feeling his hands start to heal over. And then noticed the canoodling going on over there. Which was totally fine with him. He'd just be over here, wiping blood off onto his jeans. Like a perfectly normal person. |
Stiles |
Okay, that was really hot. The trap destroying, not the non-canoodling. There was no canoodling going on. "Are you okay?" Stiles asked. He let go of Lydia (she was fine, he checked to make sure her ankle was attached) and went to grab Derek by the wrists because he needed to check that his hands were healing for himself. |
Derek |
Suuuure there wasn't. Derek gave him a confused look because, hello. Werewolf here. But it wasn't like he was going to fight Stiles on the wrist grabbing. "There might be more around. I'll disarm them." So no delicate ankles were crushed in this general area. He gave little to no fucks about the others, though. |
Stiles |
"No, don't. I don't want you to keep hurting yourself," Stiles said, running his fingers across Derek's palm to assure himself that the wounds were closed. "We'll just be more careful." They couldn't possibly be out here much longer, especially when a pretty authoritative roar echoed through the forest. "Scott?" He guessed it was, but it wasn't like he and Lydia could tell the difference between dramatic roars. |
Derek |
Derek nodded at that. "Told you it was in his head," he muttered, bringing one hand up to Stiles' neck. Neck-shoulder area. It was perfectly platonic. Yes. |
Lydia |
"And he did it without me screwing him, thanks." Lydia Martin: Moment Killer. |
Isaac |
Running through the woods on foot after Scott who was on a dirt bike? Not the best idea Isaac had ever had. He realized this once he stepped on a bear trap and felt metal teeth go through his ankle. You better believe there was some yelling there. |
Allison |
"Isaac!" Allison had thankfully avoided any traps. She crouched down to help Isaac but if he wasn't strong enough to pull the trap free then she definitely wasn't. Maybe if she could find the release... |
Isaac |
"Allison," Isaac hissed. "There he is. Hit Tate. Use the tranq gun on him." This was 80% out of wanting to help Malia and 20% upset he got bear trapped because of this guy. Holy fuck his ankle hurt. |
Allison |
Allison nodded, standing up straight and taking aim. She found Tate in her sight easily but her hands were shaking too badly to really get a lock on him. "Come on..." The first shot missed spectacularly. |
Isaac |
"Allison," Isaac said as calmly as possible. "Breathe." |
Allison |
Allison did what she was told, taking in a deep breath and letting it out slowly. Under her breath she murmured the code that she and her father had been following for the last few months. This time the shot took and Tate slumped to the ground unconscious. |
Isaac |
"Good job," Isaac said in between pained breaths. "Now the second problem." His ankle still being crushed. |
Allison |
"Right!" Allison crouched down again, trying to see if she could find the release. All these traps had a release. |
Isaac |
Turns out it wouldn't be needed. A roar echoed through the woods and Isaac suddenly felt himself start to shift. Scott, he knew it was Scott, was changing Malia back to a girl but he was also giving Isaac the strength to ignore the pain he was feeling and break out of the trap. And thus Isaac learned an important lesson on how important it was to have an alpha. |
