A Denny's On the Mainland | Thursday Evening

It'd been awhile since he and Derek had been on a Denny's trip. Especially one that had no trauma attached to it. Sure, it had the risk of being slightly awkward if anybody misconstrued this as a date but it was a risk Stiles was willing to take. He was even willing to pay for his own meal just to further prove that this wasn't a date.

"Oh god there's a peanut butter cup pancake breakfast."

"Oops?" It was an accident. Totally an accident.

Then so was Derek taking one of those pancake bites to keep from doing something stupid. Like smile at that.

Joke was on him, the smile was obvious.

And of course Stiles totally saw it. "See? I knew you thought I was adorable."

"Thought that was implied." With the switching his beloved bacon for moderately okay ham.

"I like to have it reiterated every now and again." Mostly because he still found it hard to believe that Derek was into him.

Derek fiddled with his shirt sleeve, shrugging at that. Because there were rules and issues happening to prevent him from informing Stiles of his 'adorableness' the way he would if they were actually together.

And yes, ear molesting would be one of the ways.

"You have a few more months." Maybe to change your mind.

You keep your damn mouth away from his ears, Derek!

"I realize that." He may not have it marked down on a calendar or anything, but he did have sort of a countdown going on in his head. "Am I weirding you out? 'Cause I was just teasing."

"How did we even talk before?" The whole flirting thing happened.

"I think we were blatantly flirting with each other then," Stiles said. "We just thought the other one didn't know about it."

Well, Derek thought it was just normal, friendly banter. With hormones.

Shut up.

He considered it for a moment before sighing and sitting back in his seat. "Explains why I read those books for your class."

"You--" Stiles groaned, covering his face with his hands for a moment. "Oh my god I am such an idiot. I thought you had a crush on my teacher."

"She's... not my type." Oh god was she chipper and the ultimate genki girl.

"I know. I totally knew that in the back of my head but still." He was a paranoid idiot. "The other you had dated the lady who would have been my Beacon Hills English teacher over the summer and, I don't know, I thought you had a thing for chicks who read."

"I like to read." And impress people he was interested in with his book smarts.

"I mean I do too." Obviously, he was one of those people who had to know everything about anything. "Though I haven't gotten to do it for fun lately. Just class and life saving research."
