Okay, Stiles wanted to at least be a little bit impressive with his final project in Dr. Lecter's class, which would be why he wasn't going to write a paper or make peanut butter and jelly. Instead he had asked his dad to send one of his mother's old cookbooks and was attempting to make knedle serowo-truskawkowe. It was something she used to make for him and Scott when they were kids.

"Attempting" being the key word here. The first batch for his trial run was a burnt mess so now he was starting over, getting a fresh sheen of flour all over everything in the kitchen. It covered up the chunks of unused dough and smushed up strawberries from the first batch nicely.

At least he hadn't tried to make golabki. Then the kitchen would stink like cabbage in addition to being a mess.

"He was out of the house when I started," Stiles said. "I miiiiiight have planned it that way."

Mike looked amused. And not all that surprised. "Smart, probably. It might be just me but sometimes I feel like Derek gets extra grumpy in the kitchen."

Or maybe that was just the argument they'd had at IKEA about the heart-shaped cake pan.

"I think the grumpiness lends to his cooking powers?" Stiles said. "Because those cupcakes he made me on Valentine's Day were amazing."

Oh yeah, Mike remembered that.

"Well, he was plenty grumpy when he was making those. So that theory may have some worth."

"See?" he said. "Maybe that's the key to cooking. I should cook angry."

"Would that make you focus better?"

Because if he was a flaily angry person, Mike couldn't recommend it. For the sake of his kitchen.

"Nothing would make me focus better," Stiles said. "I just thought being angry would give you magical cooking powers."

"Yeah, I once broke a toe when I was cooking angry." He'd led a very interesting life, okay. "Of course I was also kinda drunk but still. I wouldn't recommend it for anyone who doesn't channel his anger the way Derek does."

"What the hell were you cooking?" He had to ask.

"Irrelevant. I dropped a frying pan right on my foot."

Okay, that might have been more because of the intoxication.

"Okay maybe we should just let Derek do the cooking in this house from now on."

"Angry cooking," Mike pointed out. "I'm not gonna get shut out of the kitchen because of I was a dumb shit ten years ago."

There were so many places he would no longer be allowed if the criteria revolved around the stuff he did a decade ago. Seriously.

"Fair enough," he said. "Your kitchen your rules."

"Thank you," Mike said, nodding magnanimously. Then he put the juice away, finally. "Alright, I need a shower. Try not to blow the kitchen up. And leave me some of those weird Polish dumplings, okay?"

"Can do," Stiles said, giving Mike a salute. "I guarantee they won't give you food poisoning."

Because Derek had made them.

Mike WAS NEVER TRUSTING THAT FACE EVER OH GOD just gave that a quiet snort before waving vaguely at Stiles and walking out of the kitchen.

Yeah, he knew Derek would be why they wouldn't kill him.
