Yes, yes, all right, the coffee shop was not necessarily what one thought of when one thought of 'supper.' But they did serve food, and Lydia was committed to hitting all of the island's eateries, in the name of fairness, so here they were.

Look, if you were that worried about it you could order decaf.

Welcome to Supper Club, everyone! The Perk is open!

Food Adventures, Thursday, First Period

"All right, guys, listen up!" Raiden said to his students today. "Today we're going to Mexico City for a taco tour, and you're gonna want to pace yourselves, okay? Today is gonna be a marathon, not a sprint.

"Mexico City is the sixth-largest city in the world, and it's full of delicious food. It was originally founded as Tenochtitlan, the capital of the Aztec empire, on Lake Texcoco--that's right, I said on the lake, on a series of islands and floating buildings, although most of the lake has now been drained to allow for building on solid land--and it has been occupied since about 1325 CE. It's a really great city full of art and culture and did I mention tacos? Let's stop wasting time talking about it and get to eating, yeah?"

Great British Bake Off (But American), Thursday, September October 16 [2nd period]

There was a chocolate fountain waiting for the class when they arrived. Because nothing said chocolate week quite like something you used to look cool at parties. Right?

"Welcome back," Tony said. "We've brought treats in case you won't get enough chocolate from today."

Steve definitely didn't startle and jump from the fountain with a strawberry on a skewer. Really. "Hi!" he said oh-so-smoothly. Killing it.

"First off, we'll be looking at your best take on brownies," Tony said smoothly. "And I don't know about other people, but I think the corner pieces are the best parts."

"They are, but that doesn't mean you should overcook the middle," Steve said. "That just makes sad, dry brownies. And please, please don't do weird things to your brownies. We watched the British show and they put in figs and it made me sad."

Tony nodded in agreement with that. Because disappointing Steve was just a crime. "And then, for your technical, we'll have you make us pots de creme."

"And we're on vacation next week, so use that time to get inspired for a chocolate box--made of chocolate and filled with three different flavors of chocolate--to bring us the week after that," Steve said with a grin.

Not. Talking. About. It. Notes. Now.

*papers shuffling*

Quiet day. Up at the School, Space Pirates watched a pirate movie, while in Health Education, Don extolled the benefits of sun protection.

The Dorms were quiet. Again. While in Town, Duke and Lucifer had a date night at the latter's while there was a new old piano at the Devil's Nest.

Like I said, quiet.

Surviving the Zombie Apocalypse, Thursday

It was still the Danger Shop. It was still the normal classroom configuration (though in the middle of it stood an extremely old fashioned projector for... some reason). It was not, however, your normal extravagant dark-haired necromancer at the front, but a tall beponytailed redhead in a neat grey suit and an extraordinarily serious expression.

"So Liliana isn't here," Jesse said. "Obviously. I'm mayor Jesse Faden, the school asked me if I wanted to do a little 'Fandom zombie invasion experiences' class for you instead. We had a bad one ourselves years ago that affected several students. At the time, the students set up barriers around the school to keep the zombies out. Fire was a very useful tool. I think King Arthur was involved, too. And we were saved by... gremlins?"

The logs from the time weren't as detailed as FBC protocol would require she'd like.

"I put together what materials we had from that time," she said. "Maps, tactics used, that kind of thing. Should be on a sheet of paper on your desk." Because again. Not as detailed as FBC protocol would require. "And I found an instructional video in the archives. So you can watch that first, and then look at the sheet, and we'll talk about it!"

That sure sounded very confident, considering that when she leaned over and turned on the projector, what it produced sure looked a lot more like contemporary England than Fandom.

"... Uh."

You know? She hadn't prepared for this.

"Or we can have a movie day," Jesse offered. "That also works?"

She was not cut out to be a teacher.

Fandom Island Museum, Thursday Daytime

Halloween season brought with it many scary things. At the moment perhaps the most terrifying was that the winter holidays would be here soon. (Where had the year gone? Where???)

As such, Steven was in his usual spot behind the Welcome Desk working on ideas for winter themed displays. There were the usual things such as pointing out the bugs and fish which thrived in colder weather. But perhaps this year they could include a special exhibition about winter events? Perhaps something about how the random happenstances in December had changed over the years?

Of course that would involve research, but that wasn't an insurmountable problem. Right now Steven was attacking it by making notes on what sorts of things could be included. He'd narrow down specifics later.

In the meanwhile, he was interruptible for any visitors who wished to talk.

The Devil's Nest, Wednesday Evening

Lucifer's piano was back in its proper place in the club. It was a relatively small detail, in the grand scheme of things, but it felt like it made a significant difference for Octavia.

... As much as seeing it also made her wonder how soon it was going to become the center of some kind of tug of war between Eric and Lucifer again. But that was its own kind of normal, too.

The Devil's Nest was open, and your Wednesday night bartender (not that one, the other one) was feeling pretty okay, for a change.

Health Education, Wednesday, Second Period

"We're going on a trip soon," Don told his students, "so I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to talk about some sun safety information." Especially considering where the trip was going to be to. "A sunburn isn't just a temporary painful inconvenience, although it's definitely also that. The sun emits radiation, which is...another class." Maybe one with Tony Stark. "Over time, damage to your skin from the sun can lead to skin cancer. Wearing protective clothing, like long sleeves and a hat, is a good idea, and you should always wear sunscreen, which is usually found in a lotion form but can also be found in stick or spray format, or even a powder, which is good for things like the part in your hair." Don showed them a bottle and explained that, "This number is the SPF, or sun protection factor, number. The higher it is, the more radiation from the sun the sunscreen will block from getting to your skin.

"I also want to talk about heat exhaustion and heat stroke," Don continued, and proceeded to handwavily discuss those topics in more detail. When he was done he asked, "Are there any questions?" Whether there were or weren't, he wrapped with, "Please take a bottle of sunscreen with you when you leave."

Fandom Radio, Wednesday 10/15

*chittering*

I have no idea what that even means. Let me just read the notes.

It’s Wednesday and I’m here to tell you about the things the squirrels have decided we all need to know about from yesterday.

We’ll start with the school as always. Tuesday means there was Reclaiming Your Childhood first thing and Ghanima took her students to a very large candy store in Florida. Diplomacy class was Anakin and Ahsoka showing a movie about people fighting. I…am not sure that counts as being diplomatic. And in my Dealing With Other People’s Trauma class we talked about how small concrete things you can do to help others. Like providing food. Or medicine. Or warm blankets.

I have nothing from the dorms but I brought the porg a treat and that seems to be helping him.

Then we have the town where things were fairly quiet. Vi was a kitten at Steph’s. Don was in the park with apple coffee, and finally Lucifer was at the Devil’s Nest for the first time in a long while playing piano once he figured out where the piano had been hidden away.

That’s all from yesterday for today. I hope it’s a good Wednesday for all of us.

Good morning, everyone, it's Captain Steve Rogers with the news of yesterday! Arden's busy right now.

*chittering*

That's none of your business. If you should've known, you would've seen it happen.

Onto classes! Jon introduced his his Cryptozoology class to terrifying Irish otters, and How Not to Drown learned the backstroke.

In town, Watts and Steven celebrated Canadian Thanksgiving, Pam relaxed on the sofa between customers at Pick Your Poison, and Raiden made sure the squirrels wouldn't get caught in fake cobwebs at Pizza Planet.

*cheering*

You're their favorite, Raiden. Lucifer was back, and baking chocolate cake, which apparently--

*sexy music*

Stop that. Lucifer and Duke eventually come up for air long enough to remember that Lucifer has a pool over in the mansion that hasn't been serviced in months, and that nags at Lucifer so he brings up pool maintenance with Octavia, too.

*chittering*

I did not "make it boring." Over at the Trooper Station, Steve and Danny debate the ethics of using the threat of tofu sandwiches in interrogations, and Don and Eric debate the necessity of so many kinds of Oreos existing, and that was before they really started drinking.

Reclaiming Your Childhood, Tuesday, Period 1 [10/14]

Ghanima was waiting for students on the steps of the school, as usual, smiling as Trebor ran around to everyone carefully handing out money to everyone -- carefully counting out a hundred dollars in twenty-dollar bills to each participant.

Ghanima was a firm believer in teaching fiscal intelligence early.

"You may have heard the expression 'Like a kid in a candy store,'" she began cheerfully. "Well, today, we are letting our inner children run free."

"We are going to Sweet Pete's in Florida, to what may be the largest candy store in the United States." Ghanima smiled brightly. "It is a contested title, to be sure, but one of the competitors primarily does wholesale -- which is not fun for us -- and the other is in Minnesota, which I have been told is a silly place to go to in the winter."

The portal blinked into existence, and Trebor ran through ahead of his mother, giggling wildly. "Well, I suppose that's our cue," Ghanima laughed. "To Sweet Pete's!"

The Park, Tuesday Morning

Don had woken up this morning mildly hungover, with his bad leg making it known that he had been standing for nearly eleven hours in surgery yesterday. He had considered rolling over and going back to sleep, or making Thor deal with the inconveniences of corporeality, and then he had instead dragged himself out of bed and made himself go for a stupid little walk for his stupid little mental and physical health.

One of the Starbucks gremlins had run up to him on his way out the door with a coffee cup almost as big as it was. Don had accepted it, which was probably a bad idea, but it didn't taste of hallucinogens.

It tasted of apples.

"I don't know why this seems to be a thing," he grumbled as he sat on a park bench, drinking his apple coffee.

Do you not? Thor asked. He sounded amused. It wasn't cute.

"I'm a surgeon. I take my coffee black, for optimal caffeination."

There is nothing wrong with a latte every now and then.

"This is a macchiato."

My mistake.

Diplomacy, Tuesday, October 14, 2025 [2nd period]

The television was back in front of the class today.

"Often once you have enough political entities engaging in diplomacy with each other, eventually they'll start creating more formal coalitions in the hope of creating stability and avoiding conflicts," Ahsoka began.

"Where were are from, there was a Senate that represented all systems in our galaxy," Anakin said, "which was as chaotic as you might be imagining."

"Especially as in addition to the usual issues you get when you gather a large group of people with varying levels of idealism, corruption, and political know how, there were number of malicious bad actors involved."

Anakin nodded, making a face. "So, if you do end up in this line of work, don't be blind to the idea that there are beings actively working against the collective interest."

Ahsoka was being so good right now in not calling anyone here out on missing that. "Today we'll be watching a movie about such a person looking to exploit this planet's equivalent organisation." Which was technically true. The best kind of true.

One of these days Anakin would learn not to let Ahsoka pick the movies. But that day was not today. "Take notes and we'll discuss how you would implement the diplomacy on display," he said.

But it was Anakin's favourite kind of diplomacy, aggressive negotiations.

...true. "Let's begin," Anakin concluded.

Dealing With Other People's Trauma, Tuesday 10/14

“Hello again, everyone,” Stark said on time, for once. “Something different today, I think. A chance for you all to talk more, and for us to talk with each other. Unless you’d rather not talk. That’s fine. That’s always fine.”

You could just eat the moddable snacks. That’s what they were for!

“So…today, we’ll talk, we’ll brainstorm, ideas of ways to offer support to others who may need it. Perhaps after a new traumatic event. Perhaps just because they happen to need some support then. And sometimes it’s just nice to do things for other people.” Of course, the urge to do things for people constantly might be a trauma response in itself but now was not the time to get into that.

“So…I’ve got snacks. I’ve always got snacks. And I mentioned another day that once when I was very…unwell…a friend made sure I ate. That’s an easy place to start, I think. Bringing people food can be a good way to help them. To support them. Making food or ordering food or simply bringing over basic food items that don’t require much preparation. So…there’s that. If you have more to say on that, please do. And then we can think of other ideas, other ways to support and to help. Sometimes it’s hard to do things for yourself but easier to do them for others. Sometimes supporting each other will help both parties.”

So in the end, he swanned into the club on Tuesday night like he'd never been gone in the first place. "I'll have a scotch by the piano," he informed Tiny.

Then spent fifteen minutes figuring out where the piano was and dragging it back to the stage. "Right." And then sitting down behind the piano, putting his fingers down, and-- Nothing Else Matters? Yes. Why not?

The clinic was looking even spookier today. Unlike some establishments, there were plenty of fake cobwebs in the corners of the lobby. The squirrels shouldn't be lurking in here anyway.

Stark had the usual coffees this morning, along with some seasonal cookies (lots of bat shapes today).

Stabby was carving a pumpkin on the counter. The nurses looked like they wanted to say something but, well, the crab had a large knife and it was going to be easier and safer to just wait until he was finished.

The clinic was open, the crab was only stabbing pumpkins (so far), and the alien was in.
