Eichen House | Evening

Stiles
The ride to Eichen House was a fairly quiet one. Stiles felt like there wasn't anything else to discuss with his father or Derek on the matter so he had just kept his mouth shut for once.

That is until they were all standing at the front gates. "Seemed more cheerful in the brochure."

Derek
And that would be Derek giving him such a look out of the corner if his eye. There were eyebrows involved in making it even more assertive. Because that's the way Derek Hale rolled.

Stiles
"I'm kidding," he said once he caught Derek's look. Sheesh, can people joke about being committed into an insane asylum anymore?

From down the street Stiles heard the dulcet tones of a dirt bike and even he knew it wasn't some passerby. "Great."

Scott
If you thought Melissa McCall wasn't going to tell her son that his best friend was about to be put in the nut house you were very mistaken, okay? "Why didn't you tell me?"

Sheriff Stilinski
Sheriff Stilinski sighed. "We were trying to avoid something like this."

Scott
Scott looked over at Derek. "You're letting him do this?"

Derek
"It's his choice." Even if Derek really did not like it, it wasn't up to him to decide. "And I really can't think of a time he didn't do the exact opposite of what I wanted."

Stiles
"It's only for a few days," Stiles said like that made anything better.

Scott
"This is the same place where they kept Barrow, the guy with a tumor inside him filled with flies," he said, pleading to the Sheriff about this now since it seemed like Stiles and Derek weren't going to do anything. "You don't know everything yet."

Sheriff Stilinski
"I know enough. Nogitsunes, kitsunes, Oni, or whatever they're called," he said. "Scott, I saw an MRI that looked like exactly like my wife's. And it terrifies me. I'm headed down to L.A. tomorrow to talk to a specialist."

Nogitsune or not, Stiles' brain was still deteriorating.

Scott
"Why are you putting him in here?" Scott asked.

Stiles
"He's not," Stiles said. "It was my decision."

He didn't really much care what happened to him, but he did care about making sure the nogitsune couldn't get out and torture Scott and Derek again.

Derek
"Scott, this really isn't helping," Derek ground out.

Scott
"Derek, we can't help him in here!" Come on, throw Stiles over your shoulder or something and run off! Scott would hold the sheriff back!

Stiles
"And I can't hurt you," Stiles said.

Scott
"Deaton's got some ideas, Argent's calling people, we're going to find something and if we can't--" If they can't then Scott was going to have a bigger freak out then he was having right now.

Stiles
"If you can't then you have to do something for me, okay?" Stiles said, leaning in towards him. "Make sure I never get out of here."

He looked over at Derek. "Both of you."

Derek
That was so unfair to ask of him, Stiles. Which was why he was frowning up a storm, but nodded. Because goddamn it all. It wouldn't come to that.

Deeply unfair still.

Sheriff Stilinski
"We should go inside, get you checked in," Sheriff Stilinski said. "I don't think they'll let Scott or Derek come with us."

Stiles
Stiles figured as much. He nodded. "Go ahead inside, I just want to say goodbye."

And, look at that, Scott could take a hint and wander off for a few moments to let him and Derek be alone.

Derek
Derek made his sad puppy face once Scott was far enough away. He huffed, eyes downcast and hands out like he wanted to grab Stiles but couldn't bring himself to do it. "We'll figure something out."

Stiles
That's okay, Stiles will do the hand grabbing for you, Derek. "And what if you can't?"

Even if the nogitsune thing got figured out, he was still dying. Sorry, but he didn't have as much hope as everybody else around him seemed to.

Derek
Which would be why Derek was grabbing him to cling onto, arms around Stiles' body to keep him close. Like a giant, wolfy limpet.

"We'll figure it out," Derek repeated.

Stiles
Stiles leaned into Derek, giving up on putting up a fight about this. He really wanted Derek to say he'd move on if there wasn't anything they could do for Stiles and not go into some kind of spiral of depression, but he was probably asking too much about that.

"I just don't want to hurt anybody else."

Derek
"I know," Derek said, kissing his cheek because he could still. "I know. I'll do anything I can to stop this."

Hey there, desperation. Long time no see.

Stiles
"I know you will," Stiles said. "Probably goes without saying but I'm going to miss you."

Derek
"You'll miss the Netflix," Derek said, going with the bad joke here. Which also meant more hugging. "I'll be here, okay?"

For everything. Until the end. Which hopefully came in the distant future.

Stiles
Stiles nodded against Derek's shoulder, holding him tightly for a few moments before letting go. "I better get inside

Derek
Derek nodded, visibly steeling himself for this. Then quickly leaned in for a kiss. Because he was a giant sap like that. "Go before your dad wonders if I kidnapped you."

Stiles
"Scott would probably approve," he said quietly. He kissed Derek again before pulling away completely. "I'm going to be fine."

With those encouraging words he turned around and started walking past the gates.

Sheriff Stilinski
The sheriff was waiting for Stiles inside, not looking very impressed with the surroundings. Patients were wandering the darkened halls and the lobby looked like something out of a horror movie.

Stiles didn't belong here.

Stiles
Stiles felt like the place was pretty creepy and foreboding too. But it was a mental institution, they always looked creepy in the movies. He placed his hand on his dad's shoulder when he made his way inside and led him towards the front desk.

Nurse
A friendly looking nurse met up with them a moment later. "Mr. Stilinski? This way please."

She led the Stilinski men to her office, where she sat down behind a desk and began shuffling through paperwork. "First 72 hours there's no phone calls, no e-mails, no visitors. We will be taking you from here to a brief physical. In the morning you will be assessed by a staff psychologist, speak to a social worker and attend group therapy."

Sheriff Stilinski
Sheriff Stilinski found himself overtaken by nerves. Those instructions were meant for Stiles and it--it just wasn't right. "I feel like we're forgetting something."

Nurse
The nurse ignored Sheriff Stilinski, instead putting a pair of slippers on the desk. "You will be wearing these, Stiles, no laces allowed. You don't have a belt, do you? Please empty your pockets in this tray."

Sheriff Stilinski
"Your pillow, your pillow--we forgot your pillow." So they should leave right now.

Stiles
"Dad, it's fine," Stiles said has he placed his phone and wallet onto the tray.

Sheriff Stilinski
"No, no, you're never going to be able to fall asleep," he said. "W-We got to go back."

Stiles
"It's fine, Dad. I don't need it." He knew what his dad was doing and, while he appreciated the thought, but this was for the best.

Sheriff Stilinski
"I can't believe we forgot it," Sheriff Stilinski said, smiling like he wasn't having a complete freak out right now. "I mean every time we stay in a hotel the first thing you pack is your pillow."

Stiles
"You can bring it tomorrow," Stiles replied calmly.

Sheriff Stilinski
"You know what, stop, stop, enough," he said, getting up from his chair. "Stiles, get your stuff. I'm not checking you in here if you're not going to get one good night's sleep."

Stiles
Stiles got up and pulled his father into a hug for a few moments. When he pulled away he was giving him a look that clearly said he wasn't backing out of this. "Dad, I haven't had a good night's sleep in weeks."

He gave his dad another hug before letting the nurse lead him out of the room and down the hall.

Stiles
Stiles was led down dim, empty halls by the nurse. She was talking about the place but he wasn't really listening, too busy taking in the sights.

He thought he saw a glimpse of a familiar looking girl down the hall but when he moved to get a closer look she was gone. Great, this place was so creepy.

Soon Stiles was being led up a staircase, up to where his room would presumably be. Some patients were wandering the halls but one in particular caught Stiles' attention. A boy around his age a few floors up was standing by the banister tying a bed sheet to it.

It didn't take a genius to see what he was going to do. "Hey, do you see that?"

Nurse
"Stiles, wait for me." She seemingly did not notice the patient mumbling to himself about birds and oceans and who was currently trying to step up on the banister.

Stiles
"That guy up there--hey, hey!" Stiles shouted, rushing up the stairs. Where the hell were the orderlies in this place?

The guy put a noose made of sheets around his neck. "Stop him! Stop him!"

It was too late. The guy took a step off the banister and he fell, his neck snapping with a sick crack when the sheet went taught.

Stiles looked down over the banister in shock. He had never in his entire life seen anything like that before. Patients, doctors and orderlies had gathered around the lobby, looking up at the limp body hanging above.

A chill went down Stiles' spine when it looked like one of the doctors had bandages wrapped around his head.

Nurse
The nurse didn't seem as shocked as she should have been at a patient committing suicide right in the hallway. Instead she made sure it was being taken care of before leading Stiles to his room.

Stiles
"Okay, I know there's the whole 72 hour thing but I really need to use the phone." He needed to call his dad and tell him this was a huge mistake. Because it had been a huge, huge mistake. The nogitsune fed off of chaos, strife and pain and this place was a goldmine for it.

Nurse
"The accident that occurred is being taken care of," she said, stopping in front of one of the doors.

Stiles
"You're seriously calling that an accident?" Stiles asked.

Nurse
"Incident."

Stiles
"Slightly better, still need to use the phone," Stiles said as he watched the nurse unlock the door. "Just five minutes? Three minutes, please? A three minute phone call?"

Nurse
The nurse opened the door and gestured for Stiles to go in. "Would you like to go to sleep, Stiles, or would you like to be introduced to our 5 point restraint system?"

Oliver
"I would go with sleep." Said the boy currently restrained to one of the two twin beds in the room. He gave Stiles a little wave. Really little, seeing as his wrists were restrained.

Stiles
Oh hell no. No, he was not dealing with this. He turned to make a break for it but found a padded door closing in his face. "Hey, no, wait wait wait!"

Annnnnnd of course the door was locked.

Oliver
"I'm Oliver." Just so you know.

Stiles
"Stiles." He really wanted to ask why Oliver was tied up but he felt like that might have been impolite.

Oliver
"There was a suicide, huh?"

Stiles
Stiles nodded, sitting down on the bed. "Yeah."

Oliver
"Is it Monday?" he asked. "There's a much higher rate of suicide on Mondays."

Stiles
"Okay then." That was super fucking disturbing.

Oliver
"I heard it, by the way," Oliver continued. "It happened in the stairwell, right?"

Stiles
"Yeah," Stiles said. "How did you know that?"

Oliver
"I heard the echo," he said. "This place, something about the way it was built. Everything echoes. Eventually. That's why they call it Echo House."

Stiles
Oliver settled down after that, somehow managing to fall asleep despite being strapped to the bed. Stiles stayed where he was, knowing he wasn't going to be able to sleep tonight.

This had been a mistake.
